Pismo Hard Drive, ATA 5? ATA 66? ATA 100
I want to upgrade the hard drive in my Pismo. I see designations of ATA 5, ATA 6, ATA 66, and ATA 100. I have read in various groups that some people say the ATA 6 did work in their Pismo, and some that say the ATA 6 did not work. Please help in understanding the differences and which is the best for my Pismo. Cheers In article <mrjazz-7BBD69.08412622022005@orngca-news04.socal.rr.com>, "H.B. Install SATA or IDE Hard Drive into IBM xSeries 330
Hello, I've recently acquired an IBM xSeries 330 1U server equipped with the hotswap SCSI backplane. Instead of SCSI, I would like to install SATA or PATA IDE Hard Drives because of their greater capacity and availability. The catch is that the 330 doesn't have any 4-pin molex power conectors, as the SCSI backplane is powered from the motherboard. Looking through the documents on IBM's support site, I found a reference to a part# 06P6238 "Cable, hard disk drive 4-pin power." Unfortunately, I cannot find a description of what this part does. IBM Deskstar 120GB IDE Drive hardware (electronics) swapout?
Hi, I'm in a bit of trouble. I had (have?) a two disk stripe of which I troubleshot for months and finally realised that it wasn't working because one of the hard drives stopped powering up. As you know this means my stripe is a goner without the second drive. I am almost convinced that if I get the power working again on the second HD I can get my stripe back and copy the stuff off of these drives. The question is: How? I've swapped out the circuit boards before on drives (to my success) but I am unsure if this will do it. I can buy another 120GB Deskstar a...

Wanted: IBM Deskstar 46.1 GB hard drive logic board info
I need a logic board for a Dell OEM IBM Deskstar DTLA-304075, Sept 2000. I found one on ebay that was not Dell, made Aug 2000. The Ebay one says "LBA 90,269,840 SECTORS". Could it still work? Somewhat OT: Truth is stranger than fiction... (IBM hard drive with Western Digital branding)
While working on a Power Macintosh G4/400, I happened to look at the hard disk out of the corner of my eye. It looked like any late-90s model IBM DeskStar, but upon a closer look it is branded as a Western Digital "Expert" drive. The jumper settings follow those of a late-90s Deskstar drive, and almost every IC on the controller board is by IBM. Strange...I wonder why IBM would have built drives for Western Digital? Even more interesting is Western Digital's almost-complete ignorance of this drive on their support website. It took a Google search to turn it up in their web site. William ...

OT: IBM 3270 PC(s) [5160 XTs with additional 3270 hardware] on eBay UK
Hi group, I seem to be making posting too difficult - or should that be "making" time for it?... That said, creating Time itself is an interesting prospect, but I'll probably never get around to it. Anyway, something has driven me to post: There is an auction for three IBM PCs "built 1985/6" plus a printer on eBay UK - the one pictured appears to be an example of the unusual type 5271 "3270 Personal Computer", which is essentially a 5160 XT crossed with a 3270 terminal and provides the functions of both. The picture shows a PC set up with both a special type 5272 display and a 122 key keyboard as used on the 3270 PC, though details of numbers and cards in the PCs have not been included. Seller is based in Lapworth in the West Midlands, pick up only. I'm not very far away though I don't have transport, but would be happy to help out if at all possible. As I understand these aren't too common, especially complete set ups, so I just think would be a shame if they met a all too familiar fate. To clarify, I have no affiliation with the seller whatsoever. Multiple 2.5" IDE laptop hard drives on one IDE channel?
I'm currently in the process of building a system out of spare parts. I'd like to use several laptop drives in this system, since I already have them, they're small (in case size), and they're far more quiet than the old desktop drives I have. The problem I've run into is that the only IDE to laptop IDE adapters I've found cost $10 or more and only work with one drive. What I was hoping to find was a way to hook up two of these drives to a single IDE port on my motherboard. Any suggestions? Thanks, Jeff -- Remove "no" and "spam"...
