OT: IBM 3270 PC(s) [5160 XTs with additional 3270 hardware] on eBay UK
Hi group, I seem to be making posting too difficult - or should that be "making" time for it?... That said, creating Time itself is an interesting prospect, but I'll probably never get around to it. Anyway, something has driven me to post: There is an auction for three IBM PCs "built 1985/6" plus a printer on eBay UK - the one pictured appears to be an example of the unusual type 5271 "3270 Personal Computer", which is essentially a 5160 XT crossed with a 3270 terminal and provides the functions of both. The picture shows a PC set up with both a special type 5272 display and a 122 key keyboard as used on the 3270 PC, though details of numbers and cards in the PCs have not been included. Seller is based in Lapworth in the West Midlands, pick up only. I'm not very far away though I don't have transport, but would be happy to help out if at all possible. As I understand these aren't too common, especially complete set ups, so I just think would be a shame if they met a all too familiar fate. To clarify, I have no affiliation with the seller whatsoever. Looking for Spss/Pc+ V2.x software for IBM Pc/Xt/at (1988)
Old timers, I am looking for nostalgia software for SPSS/PC. Specifically, SPSS/PC+ V2.x software for the IBM PC XT/AT that came out in 1988. I need the full version not the student version. The Graphics add-on is desirable but not necessary. Any usable media or download, e.g., ftp, is fine. Or just attach it to an email reply. SPSS itself does not have it anymore. Was the IBM PC Open Hardware?

In another thread, DFS actually raises an interesting point imo. My recollection of the IBM PC is a very expensive piece of kit, which had two advantages. 1. It was IBM ("nobody ever got fired for buying IBM") 2. With the IBM name, the concept of the Personal Computer became a serious, business-thing, no longer a toy or hobbyist or niche piece of equipment. However, I have another recollection. Within ...

USR 56K external modem
I have a USR 56K external modem for sale on eBay, as well as a few other items that are less relevant for the Apple II. I think I still have the serial cable for connecting it to an Apple //c, if any //c owners are interested. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3426669173&category=14920 &rd=1 Admittedly, a 56K modem may be overkill for the //c, which had problems communicating at 2400 baud, but IIRC the SSC card could send/receive at speeds well above 56K. - Mike -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 In article <Ejb%a.853$kK4.592@nwrddc02.gnilink.net>, M. The SSC can only go up to 19.2 kbps. You might be able to hack it to go faster, but it won't go faster than 19.2 kbps out-of-the-box. The serial ports in a IIGS will do 38.4 kbps easily enough...if you're lucky, you can get 57.6 kbps. USR 56K modem stalls
I recently bought a used USR Sportster 56K external modem (5686-03) on eBay. After a (foolishly) short checkout, which seemed fine, I flashed the firmware to V.92. Now I get random stalls, wherein the incoming data simply stops. The modem continues to send out brief periodic pulses, but there is no response. I have other modems that work fine using the same lines, so I think the lines are okay. Same problem occurs with two different ISPs. I've searched the web for modem troubleshooting and tried all kinds of modem initialization strings with no joy. The modem diagnostics look...
