You'd have to run Windows in standard mode.

I figured. Might be interesting, as my IBM Portable PC isn't doing much
right now.

Looking for Spss/Pc+ V2.x software for IBM Pc/Xt/at (1988)
Old timers, I am looking for nostalgia software for SPSS/PC. Specifically, SPSS/PC+ V2.x software for the IBM PC XT/AT that came out in 1988. I need the full version not the student version. The Graphics add-on is desirable but not necessary. Any usable media or download, e.g., ftp, is fine. Or just attach it to an email reply. SPSS itself does not have it anymore. Thanks, Art Kendall On Sep 18, 12:51 pm, Art Kendall <Arthur.Kend...@verizon.net> wrote: > Old timers, > > I am looking for nostalgia software for SPSS/PC. > > Specifical...

FA: IBM PC XT/286 MODEL 5162

Hi Chris, > http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=5128855684 If it were a bit closer to me I would bid. The XT 286 was produced after the AT was started (first use of SIMMs in an IBM system for *most* of the system RAM), mainly viewed as using excess XT cases (I don't know if that holds water, because the motherboard development would cost more than recycling the case metal). Could have swore that it was 8MHz (like the late-model 339 ATs), bu...

Looking for XENIX or PC/IX for IBM PC.
Hello, I know Minix, but I'd like to find other UNIX or UNIX-like OS for early IBM PC (circa 1981-85 or so). This is to study the booting process and operating system in general. Please let me know what you have. I offer my help to make diskette copies if you can't yourself, for your own backup purpose as well. Thanks. You might also be interested in Coherent Unix, which is freely available today - e.g., at http://www.tliquest.net/unix/Other/Coherent/ Kernel source is also available. In addition, Bill and Lynne Jolitz' "Porting Unix to the 386" article series in Dr. Dobb's Journal (http://www.ddj.com/documents/s=1066/ddj9101a/9101a.htm) might be interesting since it contained many details on the booting process and x86 protected mode transition. Was the IBM PC Open Hardware?
On Friday 22 April 2005 20:06 DFS wrote: > And lest you forget, the PC software and hardware industry has > thrived under Windows as no other industry ever has in history. In another thread, DFS actually raises an interesting point imo. My recollection of the IBM PC is a very expensive piece of kit, which had two advantages. 1. It was IBM ("nobody ever got fired for buying IBM") 2. With the IBM name, the concept of the Personal Computer became a serious, business-thing, no longer a toy or hobbyist or niche piece of equipment. However, I have another recollection. Within ...

IBM PC XT/AT and memory holes
I tried to find a copy of the original specifications document for the IBM PC XT/AT, but I wasn't able to. I wanted to know what was the memory map of the original IBM PC XT. I remember reading that the regions from 0xA000:0 till 0xFFFF:7FFF were reserved for something other than memory mapped IO. Did the concept of memory mapped IO exist in the PC XT at all? IBM PC AT
My dad has an old IBM PC AT that he has used for years to do word processing. All of the sudden, it will no longer boot. It goes through the post tests and then ends up at a menu that has the options List, Run, Load, Save, Continue. (I haven't seen the computer itself, this is secton hand information given over the phone.) My guess is that the CMOS battery died. I can probably find a new battery for it, however I need to know how to restore the information to allow it to find the hard drive and boot. Does anyone have any information on how to restore one of these old beast...
