802.11g Compact Flash Cards!

  • Follow

After doing some research, I have found that these card are
manufactured, and some such as the Ambicom compact flash wireless
cards come with Windows drivers.

I own an x20 and an x31, I really don't want to do the minipci trick
on the x20 as I have heard that reception is not very good. I was
wondering if anyone has used the newer 802.11g sf cards?

The card you referred to has CF connector configuration which
is NOT the same as PC card (aka PCMCIA) connector, so even if
you manage to get it in, it will not work directly. You will need a
PC-CARD to CF adaptor to use it. Secondly, the card has CF
form factor, with the antenna portion thicker so it will not be able
to go
into the PC card slot flush. It must have the "antenna" secton
exposed to work properly. You may want to get a PC-CARD wifi adapter
if your internal miniPCI card does not work well. That is what I did
for my X22.
somewhat thicker, thus it will not go all the way in into the standard
PC card slot.

So the CF slot on the X3x series cannot be used? Is that what you are
saying? Remember that the X3x series have CF slots.

Sorry, I spoke too soon. I forgot that these laptops DO have CF slots.
You're right, these cards may work. However, remember that the
antenna portion have to stick out for it to work as designed.
