A31 Wireless Mini-PCI With WPA

  • Follow

Can anyone direct me to the IBM mini-pci wireless card that has WPA ability
for my A31 and will work with the A31?
I have the original mini-pci combo card. The alternative I have found is the
Intel 2200BG mini-pci card but I don't want to deal with the 1802 error
issue, if possible.

Thanks for all thoughts and suggestions.

Your best bet for avoiding the 1802 issue is to lookup the part numbers
for supported mini PCI Wi-Fi cards in the Hardware Maintenance Manual
for your system:
<http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-39796>

I checked the manual, and the supported part numbers are 26P8092 and
26P8472, with the latter being the current part. (Another source
indicates the 26P8513 will also work, but I don't know how reliable that
is.) These cards don't seem to support WPA.

I personally think it would be better to get a 802.11g card with WPA
support and deal with the 1802 issue.

Thanks for your help. I agree completely and have no problem dealing with
the 1802 issue. My question now is what would you recommend as the best path
to follow in dealing with 1802. I've read about a few but some (BIOS
altering) seem very risky.

I used NO1802.COM successfully on my T41.
<http://www.command-tab.com/2006/02/26/unauthorized-wireless-cards/>

If you have CDC Ethernet installed, you may still get an annoying "too
many ethernet controllers" warning during bootup, although that
reportedly won't happen with:

* Broadcom BCM94306MP B/G
* Intel 2200BG

My personal preference would be the Intel card.

p.s. Please don't switch posting styles (top vs bottom) in mid-thread
-- it's confusing.  Thanks.
