How to turn off numbers on IBM SpaceSaver keyboard??

Does anyone know how you turn off the numbers from
the dual purpose keys so that the letters type rather than
the number??

Press the "Fn" and the "Numlock" keys simultanuously. The latter
might be labelled "Num |1|" or something.

There isn't an Fn key on this keyboard.

Point of information:  If there are no Fn keys, how does one type?

There isn't an Fn key on this keyboard.  As it turns out, you have to hold 
the
shift key and the special number key to activate and deactivate.  What, you
use the Fn key with every keystroke????
