I series DVD Problem

  • Follow

I havea I series, 1400, 2611-452 Laptop. I has a factory installed DVD. I am
running 98SE.
The DVD works reads CD's fine but will not see a DVD.
Things that I have tried:
Installed XP Pro
Reinstalled 98SE
Purchased a CD with all IBM mods for the 2611 Series. Worked fine for
modem, sound, etc.
When I install DVD player software (3 different kinds) I can never set the
region.
When I try to play a DVD I get a pop up that says NO Player / No Disk.
I THINK the DVD worked when I got the laptop a few months ago before I tried
to install XP.

The DVD drive is a Matshita. Yes, I looked on the web for a driver and
didnt find one. Same for IBM and Lenovo.

Any assistance would be appreciated. Please no obvious things like try
another disk, or different player software.
I'm really stumpted on this one.
I
n System it shows the Matshita drive as installed but the icon in my
computer indicates it is a CD.

I get no other errors. I have used the drive to install software so I know
it works for CD's

Almost certainly the DVD laser has failed, a not uncommon problem, and
the drive needs to be replaced.
