LCD display compatibility (T42 type 2373-L94)

  • Follow

Hello

I am having IBM ThinkPad T42 type 2373-L94 and my LCD display is
physically broken. I need a new one.

The display is: N141XB-L01-X Rev:X3, P/N: 92P6730, FRU: 92P6731. On
the Internet people offer LCD displays that they claim are "T42
compatible".

The question is: how to tell if a given LCD display *really is*
compatible with this T42 model? Is there a list?

Thank you,
STF

Check the Hardware Maintenance Manual (downloadable from Lenovo).

Thanks but 92P6730/92P6731 is not listed on ibm.com nor lenovo.com
at all (according to Google). Strange, huh?

You can get some idea from this page:
http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/TFT_display
Although it's not extensive (I've added to the database a couple of times
myself when I've found FRUs / Part numbers / Model numbers that weren't on
the list).

Your's is a 14.1" XGA (1024x756)
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/quickPath.do?quickPathEntry=2373L94
but I think that the GPU would drive an SXGA+ (1400x1050). However the SXGA+
would be more expensive.

Have fun.

Okay but why is it not listed in Hardware Maintenance Manual?

BTW my T42 type 2373-L94 is also not there. I only read on WWW that
it is based on 2373-4WG (which is kind of listed).

It looks that this Hardware Maintenance Manual is incomplete. :-(

It covers only FRU (field replaceable units) and may not list all
successive variations of a given part.

The HMM lists only pre-configured models. CTO (configure to owner),
refurbs, etc, may not be included. Nonetheless it *is* FRU complete --
just look up your particular components.

You mean this? : http://shop.lenovo.com/us/accessories
I can't find my LCD panel there.

Well, but my FRU (92P6731, as I said) is not listed there.

Are we talking about the same document? I am talking about this one:

PARTS. Not accessories. Start here:
<http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=TPAD-FRU>

They're also known for superceding the item listed in the HMM and
failing to update both the parts list and their online lookup
facility. Calling the order desk during business hours (sorry, I
don't have the number handy) will get you the correct replacement
item.

I learned this the hard way when looking for a replacement fan
for my T41.

Oh, my 92P6731 is now listed here:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-58431.html . It can
even be found by Google now. It is listed as T43 part (though my
laptop is T42).

So I guess all these:

AUO 92P6765
CMO 92P6731 (mine)
HYDIS 92P6733
HYDIS (lead-free) 13N7044
LG 92P6726
Samsung 92P6759
TMD 13N7024

are equivalent, right?

Call parts ordering. They are quite helpful in my experience.
