Replacement of Hard Drive in a iSeries 2611-412 Thinkpad
After reading several posts regarding the replacement of Hard Drives
in the iSeries 2611-412 Thinkpad, beyond the 6.8 GB size and in
consultation with several Internet upgrade shop, I installerd a 48 GB
IBM TravelStar that had Microsoft Windows 2000 Pro Operating System on
it. The CMOS setup was able to read it as a 48 GB drive and the system
starts to bootup, I receive the Windows 2000 Pro Splash Screen and
then the bootup process Stops and then I receive the following "Blue
Screen of Death" with a stop code:
STOP: 0x0000007B (0xF401F84C,0xC0000034,0x00000000,ox00000000>
INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE
The screen also advises a CHKDSK /F be performed to look for Hard
Drive errors, but the system is locked and won't respond other than
shut down using the power switch. The system is set to respond to a
bootable CD first, then a bootable floppy and last the HDD, it won't
respond to any of these bootup procedures.
I would like to hear from anyone w2ho has done a upgrade of this model
notebook and had this type of problem and how they were able to solve
it or anyone else with ideas on what this all means.

Is there a problem with the 8.6G size in bios?
Try is you can size down your new drive to 8G with
partition magic or something else.
