external 2.5" USB 2.0 enclosure

Hi group,

I have seen an a powerless USB 2.0 enclosure at a local computer store
that uses two USB ports on the PC and does not require an external power
source. But I don't remember the brand. Can someone recommend a
brand/model? Does anyone know if all the powerless USB 2.0 enclosures
require two USB ports?

I have a USB powered enclosure (that also takes a 6v adaptor if for whatever
reason the USB port is not supplying enough juice) that requires only one
USB port to power itself. I have a 20GB drive housed in it and have had no
problems at all over the last 5 months. I bought it for $49 Cdn. online and
am happy with it. It's a "GoGoDrive Firewire/USB 2.0 enclosure" TT945
series. I got it from mycableshop.com.

Hope this helps,

using a Cardbus USB 2.0 expansion card with an external 2.5" unpowerd HD
hi all, I have an A31p thinkpad. I want to use my external 40gb 2.5" HD with a USB 2.0 port, so I'm considering buying a USB 2.0 expander Cardbus card like this one: conceptronic CSP480C2 http://www.conceptronic.net/Site/DesktopDefault.aspx?tabindex=0&tabid=37&search=CSP480C2 however better safe than angry, so I checked google groups and found lots of complaints on this card failing to recognize (or the OS) external unpowered hard drives like mine. curiously, they are all spanish and all relate to the same spanish notebook, a brand name called BEEP. so perhaps its a system specific issue. one of the other cards (has no brand name, model PC033 ) says max power is 500mA from each port. I have no idea how much my HD draws. Has anyone experienced this type of configuration? p.s. my ext. HD has a power cable but it goes into the same USB port the data cable plugs into. there is no AC adapter of course (its not a 3.5" drive). thanks I have a Toshiba MK4026GAX drive (40 GB) in a Bytecc ME-930 enclosure. The hard drive is spec'd at 1 amp during start up and 0.5 amp during read and write. The USB spec calls for a 0.5 amp capability per port. Some USB ports are capable of more current but running a hard drive from a single USB port with no other power source is a hit and miss proposition. The A31P will run the Toshiba drive from one of its USB 1.1 ports without external power. Trying the same thing with a Belkin USB 2.0 PCMCIA card does not work h...

if time = 3 seconds, how do i set the values of the time steps 0,0.1,0.2,0.3,0.5,1.0,1.5,2.0,3.0,5.0 to -9999 from time =3 seconds
Hi I have 18 inputs (arrays) which contain certain statistics and if time = 3 seconds, set the values of time step 5.0 to -9999.0. I was wondering if there is an efficient way to do this without using a lot of case statements? Thank you. Hello AdrianT, it's not really clear to me what you want to do... I suspect: you have an array containing values and you want to output them with a fixed timing of 3 seconds: you should use a for loop autoindexing trough your array and sending the value to your indicator/output/whatever. Put a "wait for next multiple" into your for loop. Or do you want to have a minimum time delay of 3 seconds? Again use a for loop, get the time value and use a InRange&Coerce with minimum set to 3 seconds... Or you should explain more precisely what you need... Hi Thanks for that. Let me explain. The time may vary. Let me give an example. if time = 2.1, I want to set the time step's 3.0 and 5.0's values to -9999.0. if the time =0.1 seconds then I want to set 0.2,0.3, 0.5 etc values to -9999.0 etc .................................................................... Can you please help? Thank you. Hello TUDS, do you use different accounts/nicknames ? Well, that's easy, at least for a sorted array: Search for your time-value in the array (Threshold 1D array). Fill all elements from that index till the end with your "error...

cloning with SuperDuper! 2.5" to 2.5"
Hi everyone, I am trying to clone my Mac HD to another HD. I have used SuperDuper! in the past to clone my Mac Book Pro to an external which has worked out great for me. In the coming weeks I will be doing some extensive traveling for work and I would like to carry a (bootable) backup of my HD on an extra 2.5" drive I have kicking around. (My normal external HD is rather large and I do not want to lug it around in my travels). Is there an easy way to make a bootable copy of my HD to a 2.5" drive? Any way to install a later "build" of 10.5.2 over 10.5.2 "GM"?
Hi all... My 10.5.2 load set is based on the 10.5.2 GM -- 9C31. We got a new MacBook Pro that has 10.5.2 9C2028 -- a later build of 10.5.2 (containing the CD/DVD Sharing among other stuff...) When "later" builds of the same version of 10.4.x came out, we were able to use Carbon Copy Cloner to copy over the GM version load set of 10.4.x (any version), then boot from the "later build but same version number" DVD and do an "upgrade" install over the GM version of 10.4.x 10.5 is not letting me do this. Something like FT245BM for USB 2.0 ? Parallel -> USB with real USB 2.0 bandwidth ?
Hello, is there a chip, in functionality like a FT245BM for USB 2.0 ? I found on websites mentioning the FT245BM compatible for USB 2.0, but i think they don't use USB 2.0, because transfer rate is "only" 1 MByte/s, which looks like high speed USB. Is there a faster parallel USB chip, which achieves more than 1 MByte / s ? I think with USB 2.0 there must be at least a factor of 10 to this speed ? 2.5" USB Enclosures??
Shirley,, A round on my plastic.. Well,, I've had my 600E a little over a month,, plunked in a couple 256 sticks,, I've connected with the internal modem, NIC card, & have 11g card running, all is well, I be happy,,, with one small exception. The 10GB drive has quickly filled,, stands at 70% this AM... I suspect this will last a long time, as this is not the prime machine. The TravelStar I have is quite, cool, and fast enough,, I'm not looking for the opposite.. One thought is to get one of the Toshiba 5GB PCM/CIA cards?? Another, on eBay I spotted a nifty little USB 2,, 2.5",, 9.5mm enclosure.. Looks like an easy upgrade. I also read that some 2.5" drives might exceed the 500mAh current provided by the USB port.. 1)Anyone want to venture a guess as to what size or rotational speed 2.5" will exceed the draw limit?? 2)I know that the 600E is USB1,, might that force the drive to use less current as it will not be running as hard to pump data across? 3)Any experience and suggestions with either would be appreciated... There is no rush,, finish your beer 1st... PCMCIA USB 2.0 card powers down laptop on insertion #2
Hi, I recently bought a this usb card for my laptop (Dell Inspiron 4150). The thing worked fine for about a week, but now whenever I insert the card into the slot, the computer instantly shuts off. I tried the second slot, with the same effect. I also tried booting with the card already inserted, but it powers off during boot. I'm using WinXP, and have the appropriate drivers installed. Yesterday, I tried taking out my laptop battery, thinking it was some sort of power problem (as the battery is old and decaying anyway) , and the card worked again on boot. Today, I did the same thing, and the card now shuts off the computer again! Here's a link to the card I'm using: http://www.syba.com/product/43/05/02/index.html Can anyone help me out? Thanks! ...
