The problem is I'm so out of touch, I have no idea what the latest and best games are. So, what are the best games at the moment? Also any decent PC gaming websites to recommend? I've tried www.gamespot.com and IGN but both are so laden with ads its a hassle to browse them. Three Unnamed Top PC Makers Want OS X
http://www.insanely-great.com/news.php?id=4361 http://www.fortune.com/fortune/subs/article/0,15114,1025093-1,00.html [Requires subscription to access] Fortune magazine reports that 'three top PC makers' want to license OS X. The companies were not named. Background: Mac OS X is built at the core from components that were designed to run on Intel as well as PowerPC hardware. These OS components include the Mach 3.0 kernel and FreeBSD, commonly known these days as the open source Darwin OS. In other words, there is nothing significant keeping Mac OS X from running on x86 hardwar...

[News] PC makers move closer to a post-Windows world
<Quote> In January, Hewlett-Packard will introduce a glossy black mini-laptop at retail for a mere $379. When it does, it will become the first major computer maker this decade (besides Apple, of course) to push a non-Windows PC in stores. This Linux-based version of the HP Mini 1000 will not slay Microsoft (MSFT) Windows. But it will add to a growing sense that the iconic operating system=92s best days are behind it.... Today, evidence is mounting that Microsoft=92s dominance in computing isn=92t what it used to be. It=92s not just the Windows Vista flop and those damning commercials,...

Rumour: Handheld WINDOWS PC Maker OQO Not Long for This World
Odd isn't it, every time I went to buy a Linux netbook, they were sold out before my payment cleared the bank, even tho they had stock when I ordered. I'm not saying that OQO failed *because* they only offered Windows XP Pro and not Linux on their units, I'm sure it's just a coincidence .... I'm sure their *high return rates* weren't cause by Windows either, that's probably just another coincidence ... begin{quote} Despite their high prices and high return rates, we've always had a soft spot for OQO. But the recent resignation of a CEO, retailer problems, a...

Appil top client PC maker smacking down HP to second place
Appil top client PC maker ------------------------- http://www.digitimes.com/news/a20120131PR202.html No longer is HP the top dog in PCs. HP strategy is windopws PC and it has lost the race as appil displaces it for top dog as client PC vendor. If it were not for open source, there would no appil. That is a clear warning to HP and other hardware makers - switch to open source to save your bacon now or kiss goodbye to ALL hardware sales. If you don't like BSD open source because of the huge infrastructure needed to get it going like appil has, then use Linux to jump start! Do it pronto...

Which soundblaster (if any) for surround in Logic 5.5 on PC?
Here's the scoop: I'm using Logic 5.5 on a PC. Currently, I have an old SoundBlaster Live! with 4.0 surround. The problem is that Logic doesn't seem to be able to send stuff to the rear speakers, no matter which outputs I choose in "Options->Preferences->Surround...". I now suspect that the soundblaster only has two *real* DAC outputs, and that the drivers for the card (when adjusting the balance of the surround speakers) merely control some analog mixer at the output stage of the card. Put in simpler terms, I fear that it's impossible to send comple...

Need FrameMaker 5.5.6 (or newer) for PC
Here's my situation. I use Linux (right now Fedora Core 6) for my day-to-day computing. I have an ancient Sun Ultra 1 which I maintain solely for access to FrameMaker 5.5.6. I also have a Windows PC that I use for running some commercial programs like QuickBooks. I access the Sun and the Windows machine through my principal Linux machine. I would like to retire the Sun but this would leave me without access to FM. Since there is still no Linux version, I would like to put FM on the Windows machine. I have no need for any of the features past 5.5.6 and am unwilling to pay for n...
