What exactly is wrong with the Dell Streak?

  • Follow

I know I have seen it get made fun of a bit here.
My company is switching from Verizon to T-Mobile. I was thinking of
selling my Verizon Galaxy Tab and buying a T-Mobile Galaxy Tab, but
our new rep is telling me Monday the Streak 7 comes out, with dual
core and 4G.
Is there an issue with this device other than the obvious "It's not an
Apple"?

Yet it is one of the devices in Edwin's "quadruple kill" for the iPad.

Tablets are a fad. Just get a laptop. Does everything a tablet does
plus about 2 billion things a tablet doesn't.

Newton was the flop that led to the Palm Pilot...

Tablets are going to be big precisely because there are still many more
people who find even the most logically laid out traditional GUI OS to
be too confusing for them than there are people who are happy with them.

People who would never have bought a computernot even netbookare
buying tablets, Brian.

Lots of them.

The Streak has an inferior screen and battery life is rather bad. I
would stick with the Galaxy Tab for now.

I don't understand how someone could find any traditional GUI to be
confusing. NextStep/OpenStep/Windowmaker/Afterstep etc. take a bit of
getting used to at first (although it is well worth it) but going in the
other direction and having a one-button interface seems far too
simplistic to me.

The reason I bought a tablet is because it is very convenient to have a
small device with a nice size screen that boots up quickly, doesn't need
to be charged very often and can be carried around easily. For anything
else, I use my desktop or laptop computers.

Of course. But you're inside it, aren't you? How long have you used
traditional GUIs? 10 years, 20? For me it's been 26 years.

But I run into people who've just started using computers who feel
completely at sea.

But there will soon be lots of people who use tablets as their only
computer.
