Does X11 support Mac trackpad?

  • Follow

I am finally getting around to installing X11 from CD disk#3.

Did not think I would need it, months ago when I installed Panther.

There are 3 main installers, I think they are named something like:

X11.pkg

openmotif.pkg

MouseAtlas.pkg

My question is, does X11 just run off a mouse? The MouseAtlas
package could be construed to be a mouse driver?

I hardly ever use a mouse, just the trackpad.

Clueless,

Whoops, never mind, I resolved the trackpad question, it works.

Apparently the web instructions I am trying to follow are for older
versions of OS X. I am running OS 10.3.3

It appears that there is only one installer package on CD disc#3 and
that installs everything necessary. (I hope)

Now to find a website that has a bunch of X11 applications :)

Try
http://fink.sourceforge.net/
to start :-)

There is a separate SDK installation that is necessary if you
compile your own X11 applications (e.g. from fink). I don't know if
this is on the Panther install disks or not, but you can get it from
apple.com if it isn't.

Yeah, I spotted the SDK package and installed it.

As regards fink, I decided not to install that.

The available applications offered in the fink package seem kinda junky
to me. Dunno, perhaps I will be sorry later.

My immediate reason for installing X11 is because several Scheme
language implementations use X11 instead of the OSX GUI.

I am trying to relearn the Lisp programming language, and a lot of my
textbooks use Scheme. (a dialect of Lisp)
