You can use iDVD (supplied with a Mac) to create a standard DVD Video
disc. I'm not sure offhand whether it will be able to import a video
clip in MPEG-4 format, but if not, then iMovie should be able to import
the video and export to iDVD.

If you burn it to a UDF data DVD, it might play on newer set-top DVD
players that support that format (they'll say MPEG 4 or DivX in the
manual). Toast is good for this, although I have it on good authority
that you can do it with Disk Utility (you have to create an image first)
and certainly from the command line.

Otherwise, Toast can convert it to DVD format and create a DVD for you,
but it takes a while.

Why not connect your Apple TV to a teevee? What's the clip?

The Apple TV is conecteed to the TV in the living room. My mother is
restricted to her bedroom and she has a small TV there with an old DVD
player. The cliip is a movie sent to me for Christmas.

In that case, I'd let Toast create a real DVD for you. The last thing
you want is to send the thing to your mother, and she can't get it to
play; it's frustrating for everyone.

If you have iDVD, you might try using that. I've never played with it.

Thanks all. After a bit of fiddling, mainly because the file was in.avi
format, I burnt a DVD with Toast.

I'd be inclined to hook up the ATV to the little TV. Wait! It's too old,
no doubt, neither composite or HDMI? Take a computer monitor in, then.

What fiddling did you have to do? Toast should have done any conversion
necessary behind the scenes.
