hidden text?

Mac OS - X v10.6.6

in iWork 8 is there something called hidden text that prevents seeing
what is being typed? If so, how is that changed so that the typing
can be seen? Same prob seen in Numbers.

I already replied to your question in comp.sys.mac.system, but you won't
see that reply here because you multi posted.

If you send the same message to multiple news groups separately, it
forces the rest of us to download your message multiple times. Also, it
means if someone replies to one of your posts in one news group, the
other places you posted the message will not see that reply! This is
known as "multi-posting", and is generally regarded as inconsiderate.

If you want to post the same message to multiple news groups, please
include all of the news groups, separated by commas, in the "Newsgroups"
line of a single post, like so:

Newsgroups: comp.sys.mac.system,comp.sys.mac.apps

This way the message is simultaneously posted to all specified news
groups. More importantly, when someone replies to your message in one
group, that reply is automatically sent in all other news groups to
which you sent the post! This allows all involved to see the entire
conversation, no matter which news group from which they access your
post. This is called "cross-posting" and is the proper way to do it.

Send responses to the relevant news group rather than email to me.
E-mail sent to this address may be devoured by my very hungry SPAM
filter. Due to Google's refusal to prevent spammers from posting
messages through their servers, I often ignore posts from Google
Groups. Use a real news client if you want me to see your posts.

There is no program named "iWork 8". But you can hide columns in
Numbers. the intent is to use it for reference numbers and such,
material that will be calculated to produce an eventual percentage of
total, or change of profit in a certain quarter or something. You hide
that column before presentation/printing.

I know of no good reason to have an option to hide text so you can't
see what you're typing.

But it happens from time to time in a lot of programs when someone
ignorantly or accidentally sets font color to the same as background
color or vice versa.

Often when that happens, dragging a selection across it makes it
temporarily visible.

A UNIX signature isn't a return address, it's the ASCII equivalent
of a black velvet clown painting. It's a rectangle of carets
surrounding a quote from a literary giant of weeniedom like
    Heinlein or Dr. Who.

Ha, ha, Dr. ..... Who's Chris Maeda?

I once did a search for getting Numbers to display "spaces when zero",
and came up with someone doing that deliberately. He was setting an
action for a cell value = 0 and setting the text colour to the same as
the background. Not the solution I had in mind, but it did show some
imagination. :-)
