iMAC email problem

  • Follow

A dear friend of mine is running a year old iMAC and suddenly she
has this problem "when I punched in "get mail" it is stuck on "trunk
monkey" and I can't get it to change". Would someone please help us?
I'm a Micrsoft fool and can't make heads or tails of an iMAC. If
someone wants to help an 82 year old damsel in distress please respond
asap. God Bless You. Earl

Someone probably tried to email a HUGE movie to her.

I'm assuming that she's on dialup.

To see what it was go to:
http://www.sillyhumor.com/trunkmonkey/

Depending on her ISP, a quick call should have them remove the message from
her mailbox so it doesn't stuff up the works. If you know what your doing
you can use TELNET and get into the mail server and kill the message
yourself.

If she leaves it long enough, it probably will download and the problem is
fixed, but no more fruitcake for whomever sent the message!

If she is using Apple's Mail program, from the menu bar select Mail -
Preferences - Accounts - Advanced.
There is an option "Prompt me to skip messages over (user input field)
kb.
Enter a relatively low number here and your friend will be asked each
time if she wants to download messages above whatever threshhold you
defined above. The dialog box that pops up also gives her the option of
deleting it from the server without downloading.

Hope this helps,

Dave

Noozer & Dave: Thanks so very much! She is up and away. I can't
express how much she appreciated your help. I do know she considers it
just below sacrificing your first born. Earl
