Kensington SlimBlade Trackball Mouse

Does anyone use one of these mobile bluetooth mice? Can you confirm
whether it is necessary to uninstall Kensington Mouseworks before the
mouse can be used?

Don't know about the software exactly; but in case you haven't purchased
one yet, a salesman at a MicroCenter Mac store-in-a-store told me that
the mice's Bluetooth connection was so unstable that he had removed
several of them from his display Macs because the Kensington mice made
the Macs look bad.

That's good to know in advance. It seems hard to find a Bluetooth (i.e.
no dongle required) mouse for use with a MacBook (or Pro). The Mighty
Mouse is ok-ish but I would rather have real buttons and a bigger
trackball or scrollwheel.

All alternative recommendations welcome.

I don't use the SlimBlade, but an ExpertMouse Pro and an Optical=20
ExpertMouse on my two big Macs running both Tiger and Leopard, and as i=20
read the Kensington webpages, it isn't necessary to uninstall MouseWorks =

before installing the SlimBlade software.

Kensington Mouseworks simply disables itself (not uninstall), when you=20
disconnect a Kensington mouse or other trackball: - I found out a day=20
when I opened the controlpane to configure some of the buttons=20
different, - but I'd forgotten to connect the Optical ExpertMouse - and=20
got a message sometihing like "...There is no Kensington device=20
connected, please check your device connections"..-)

So if I were you I'd keep the Mouseworks installed too, - and you then=20
easily can connect another Kensington device without having to=20
re-install anything. The Mouseworks doesnot harm the system in any case.

Cheers, Erik Richard

Well, I haven't heard of the problems with the SlimBlade trackball, but=20
I know that if there are many BT unit assembled in one place, it can=20
give some 'distorsion' and by this desturb other BT units - like BT=20
keyboards and mobile phones. - I have some real hard problems here,=20
though I don't have any BT keyboard or mouse - only two Sony-ericsson BT =

phones. - I can't get access to the one of these, 'cause my neighbour's=20
smartphone blocks the signal.:-(

Alternatives could be a Logitech normal cordless or BT mouse or trackball=

Normal mice

Trackballs

I've had a 'TrackMan Wheel' - normal USB version, but I have real big=20
problems with inflamation in the synovial sheath in my wrists so the=20
persisting use of the thumb for the ball isn't good for me, so I instead =

bought a 'MarbleMouse' - both a 2-button and the new 4-button for use=20
with my other two older Macs.

Also the Kensington 'Orbit' could be of interest, but it's a normal=20
[:-)] mouse with 'tail'...

Microsoft also makes some real good and very reliable mice and=20
keyboards. I have a 'Comfort curve semi-ergonomic keyboard for one of my =

machines, and though I'm not a 'MS fan' I'm highly impressed of both=20
comfort and quality.

Someone here in Denmark has just asked if the new Genius Traveller 515=20
Laser lasermouse would be compatible with Mac OS X, but i sure don't=20
know. If it is, that one might be a real alternative with it's many=20
features... - But looking at some of their models could lead one to=20
think that the MS mice are Genius..-)

While my Kensington (Ci20) isn't a bluetooth model, it and Mouseworks
perform flawlessly in Leopard for me. I hate it when I have to use my
daughter's Mighty Mouse. Comparing the two, I'd give the Kensington a 9
and the MM a 5 on a 1 to 10 scale. Five year warranty too. Of course
that doesn't help with your bluetooth problem. But I just wanted to
point out that Kensington does make some good mice.

None of these are BT.

(and only one of the mice, afaict, is BT)
