Linux app bookmarks and maildirs to Mac
Hi,
I have to make a transition from Linux to a Mac OS X system and
encounter a few problems for which I couldn't find a solution on the
web. Under Linux I used to use kmail as my mail program and konqueror
as my web browser.
I had kmail configured to put my mail into a directory structure so
that every mail folder would correspond to a directory and every mail
to an individual file. Unfortunately I could convince neither Mail nor
Thunderbird to import these files. As I don't know how the mails have
to be formatted to be readable for the import filters and how the
kmail structure/files differ from those of other mail programs, I'm
stuck.
Similarly, konqueror saved the bookmarks as an xml file, which I
thought was a pretty general format. However, neither Safari nor
Firefox is able to import it, they seem to expect HTML.
Are there any tools to solve these problems? Surely I'm not the first
one to have this trouble.
I am inclined to prefer Firefox/Thunderbird over the generic Mac
programs, because that should make a future transition easier, if I
have to or decide to move away from the Mac again (if I may say that
here...)
Thanks,
Tom

Does kmail have an option to export mail files to standard Unix "mbox"
files? Apple Mail can inmport this format. If you go into Mail's
File->Import you'll see all the formats it understands.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that the trigger for my change of machine
is the untimely death of my Linux box. Therefore, I don't have the old
machine (or any other) available to try such a conversion. This
applies of course to both kmail and konqueror.

Found this in two seconds by googling "kmail to mbox conversion":
http://fixunix.com/kde/93329-mass-convert-kmail-maildir-mailboxes-mbox-fo
rmat.html
There's a simple shell script that should run on any Unix-like system,
including OS X.
Google "konquerer bookmarks to firefox" and you'll find similar posts
for your other goal.
