### Opening a Microsoft Publisher file

• Email
• Follow

Hi.

Runing MacOS X 10.2.6 ...

Is there some way that I can open a Publisher file on a Mac?
Apparently, Publisher can save in Word format. However, the Word file
that got created seems to have missing linebreaks.

Thanks.

Not directly, no. Sorry.

Among other things. The Word file will be missing some formatting as well, and
the layout will not be the same.

You can create a PDF of the document from Publisher and edit the PDF in
Illustrator; that's about as close as you're going to get, I'm afraid.

You need to compile it. The compilation will result in a runable (executable) file, eventually. As to how precisely to do that, what commands to issue, you need to find out from the documentation for your compiler. V -- Please remove capital

file in use
Gents, Is any way in SAS to know if an external (text) file is in use , This will help me to not to access such file if it is in use by another application. Regards...Ali Ali: I've used the fopen() function for this purpose in Windows and UNIX. If the file is in use, you won't be able to open it for input. Since trying to open a non-existent file will also return 0 to fopen, initially I check if the file exists: proc printto print = 'c:\temp\mylog.lst'; run; proc print data=sashelp.class; run; %macro check_use(fileref=); data _null_; rc=filename('f','c:\temp\mylog.lst'); fex = fexist('f'); if fex then do; fid=fopen('f'); if fid then do; put 'File is available for use'; rc = dclose(fid); end; else put 'File is in use, ' fid= ; end; else put 'File does not exist'; run; %mend check_use; %put While PRINTTO has file; %check_use(fileref=mylst); proc printto print=print; run; %put After PRINTTO releases file; %check_use(fileref=mylst); -----Original

moving functions to an external file...
.. I have an html file with javascript functions in the <head> section that work fine when called from events or instanced as objects. When I move the functions to an external js file they don't work (timers don't run). What pitfalls are there in having "external" functions, is there a scope problem like in c? zin -- http://www.zintel.com George Ziniewicz wrote: > . > I have an html file with javascript functions in the <head> section that > work fine when called from events or instanced as objects. > > When I move the functions to an external js file they don't work (timers > don't run). > > What pitfalls are there in having "external" functions, is there a scope > problem like in c? > > zin No, there should be no scope problem. Be aware that when moving inline JavaScript to an external file, you shouldn't include the <script></script> tags, nor should you include any HTML (such as comments <!-- -->). Just rename your .bbl file to bbl.tex (for instance) and make it into a latex document by adding a coiple of lines as follows: ----begin bbl.tex \documentclass{amsart} \begin{document} ---contents of .bbl here ----- \end{document} ----end bbl.tex Then run pdflatex on bbl.tex. I believe by CRT he is referring to the "C Runtime Library", which is Microsoft's name for their standard C library, with some non-standard extensions. - Pete

Problem appending Objects to File
Dear programmers. I am having a hard, very hard time trying to add objects to an existing ..dat file. For exemple, i have an object in the file "file.dat", and I want to add another object, so I give to the constructor the "true" parameter. try{ //TODO: A problem for appending elements FileOutputStream fos = new FileOutputStream("file.dat", true); ObjectOutputStream oos = new ObjectOutputStream(fos); oos.writeObject(userObj); oos.close(); }.... However, when I try to add another object with this code, there is a IOException that i don't really understand. can you help me? thanks Marcelo The IOException is when I read the Object file; java.io.StreamCorruptedException at java.io.ObjectInputStream.readObject0(ObjectInputStream.java:1326) at java.io.ObjectInputStream.readObject(ObjectInputStream.java:339) at fileTools.FileTools.getUserDefListFromFile(FileTools.java:303) at plotImages.SimChooser.initLists(SimChooser.java:99) why??? thanks, Marcelo On Tue, 25 Oct 2005 11:41:03 +0200, Marcelo <info@marcefer.com> wrote, quoted or indirectly quoted someone who said : >However, when I try to add another object
