Hi,
Well, I spilled an adult beverage on my Apple Keyboard (the USB model
w/Numeric Keypad). It did to my keyboard what it's doing to my liver.
I'm not fond of the Apple keyboard - it seems flimsy, and I find myself
missing keypresses frequently. However, it does have one feature I find
essential: FKeys.
There's 19 FKeys on this thing, and I find myself using every one of
them, programming them into my primary app (MOTU Digital Performer).
Before I order another one, I'm wondering if there's a good alternative
out there somewhere, with the numeric KB and with the excess FKeys and
possibly the fn key (which I haven't been using but probably should).
Thanks!

That does not sufficiently tell us which model you have. Lots of Apple
keyboards have been USB with numeric key pads.
Is it made of plastic, or metal?

LOL... The current Apple aluminum keyboards are anything BUT flimsy.

That may not be the fault of the keyboard.

If you want Bluetooth, I've become pretty fond of my McAlly. It is a
full extended keyboard with 15 F-keys (plus 4 volume control keys, for
a total of 19 across the top).
I liked the (wired) Apple keyboard that came with my dual G5 (2006) so
much that I purchased two extra ones, just in case. I just replaced the
original one with the first spare after 4.5 years of HEAVY use -- it
still works, but really needs to be cleaned out as a couple of keys
have gotten a bit sticky (i.e. stay down, on occasion). You might be
able to find such on eBay...they have 16 numbered F-keys, plus the four
volume keys.

I'm fond of the Matias Tactile Pro--solid mechanical keys, very durable.

I like the Logitech Illuminated Keyboard. It's technically a Windoze
keyboard but it's fully functional in MacOS. (You might need to swap
Command and Option in the Keyboard Preferences.) It has an excellent
feel for fast typing and the illuminated black keys look good.

This is great :)
I bought the Matias Tactile Pro some months ago and I would not use any
other keyboard now.
This keyboard reminds me very much of the excellent keyboards Apple
used to include with their computers in the 80s. My LC II, which is
unused at present and in a box in the attic, has a lovely keyboard.
The Tactile Pro gives excellent feedback for using keys. It is noisy
compared with current keyboards and in fact I keep my original Mac Pro
keyboard to hand for use when I'm participating in webcam conferencing
so that I can take notes without making so much noise!

Noise is definitely a factor. I can't use a simplex desk-bound
speakerphone and type on my Tactile Pro at the same time, unless I mute
my phone's mic. Fine for teleconferences where I'm not the lead, but
otherwise it could be a problem.
But my preferred solution to this would be to keep the Tactile Pro and
get a headset.

Hell, the last good keyboard made was the Northgate OmniKey. It had
heavy clicky keys and weighed 5 pounds! Of course I also think there
hasn't been a good movie made since Casablanca...

I absolutely love my Logitech Keyboard, S530 Mac cordless with a
logitech 7 or 8 button cordless mouse. I think both are discontinued
and have been updated with something hipper in one way or other. I
intend to keep this thing working until the end of time.
This thing also has a series of buttons on the right that operate the
functions of iTunes while it operates in the background. Dedicated
buttons for mail, a browser, system volume, back-page and who knows
what. Some of these I have re-programmed (using their application) to
opening frequently referenced documents and other stuff.
