Yes, I will report it to Apple,
When Thunderbird pops up that irritating "update is available,"
I always ignore it. It's irritating because I want to update while in
the admin account. I set it to notify me, but I wish it wouldn't be so
often.
Anyway, I have preferences in the admin account to also check, but it
never does. And I have always installed it manually, because the one
time I did get the pop-up, the update failed with the same error that
I get manually if I don't FIRST delete the previous version.
Well, this time, I decided to try again the check/update button in the
"about" pop-up. It worked.
The security issue is that it did NOT ask for admin authentication to
install it for all users.

Sigh. I did. But a bug I reported in 2005 is still open and no one has
even commented on it. Might as well be reporting spam to Google.
