toolbar: get rid of american flag (character palette)?

The toolbar shows lots of unnecessary things, e.g. the American flag,
signalizing that I'm using the American character palette. Also the
PPPoE status is shown, but I don't need that.

How can I turn these unnecessary toolbar icons off?

Thanks!

For the flag:

System Preferences:International:Input Menu and uncheck "Show input
menu in menu bar"

I don't use PPoE.

Command-click on the icon, and drag it off of the toolbar.

Go to System Preferences > International and uncheck Show input menu in menu
bar, at the bottom. Then get the third-party free KeyViewer to display the
character palette when you need it. Put that in the third-party Fastscripts
Lite, a script menu with many advantages over the system one.

An even easier way to get rid of unwanted menu bar items is to hold down
the command key, and drag the item off the menu bar. Poof!>

That's neat- I never knew about that. (nor that you could
command-click-hold to rearrange them.) Thanks!

How to get rid of control M character
Hi, I'm using PHP code to develop a www interface to let users edit text files stored on a Solaris UX server. Users are using Windows based WWW browser access this web site. Once they have selected the file they want to edit, it's presented in a text window (form) so thay can modify the file. The submit button passes the contents of the field to a variable and it is saved to disc. From the WWW interface everything seems OK, but when I look to the file, each line has a "^M" (control-M) at the end. This makes the files bigger and it can cause problem in a near future because these files have to be processed by shell scripts to populate a mySQL DB. Someone has seen that before and what was the solution. It perhaps has an unsent message there which it is trying to send but is failing to do so? If you, possibly by mistake, clicked a Try later button on a notice that can come up after a failure to send, the outbox will appear and stay there. getting rid of unwanted characters in the input
I want to do the following: read an integer do some processing ask the user if he wants to continue. if yes, continue the above. For this I wrote the following code: #include <cstdlib> #include <iostream> #include <cctype> using namespace std; inline void process(int arg) { cout << "From process() function: " << arg << endl; } int main() { char flag; do { cout << "Enter an integer: "; int arg; if (!(cin >> arg)) break; process(arg); cout << "Continue(Y/N) ? "; } while (cin >> flag && toupper(flag) == 'Y'); return EXIT_SUCCESS; } This program compiles fine with g++3.4.3 and works fine as long as correct input is entered. However this program does not work correctly for wrong test input explained as follows: Now consider the following scenarios. Scenario 1: Suppose I run this program. It asks: Enter an integer: For this, suppose I enter, '10Y'. Then it displays: From process() function: 10 Continue(Y/N) ? Enter an integer: What happens is that for 'Continue(Y/N) ?', it does not wait for the input because the 'Y' entered(in '10Y') for the previous integer, is taken as the input for the 'Continue' flag. need to get rid of french characters on login screen
the user of a macbook got to their new system before i could and chose the canadian (french) language setting as default (when they just wanted plain canadian) without looking which meant some of the keys were transposed with the french characters (pressing the "\" key below the "delete" button resulted in a small letter a with an accent above it) i have corrected the keyboard and language problems when the user is logged in, you now get the slash when the "\" key is pressed, but on the login screen at startup it is still inserting the small letter a with and accent instead of the slash i have checked all the setting i could think of in the system preferences but it still won't put the correct characters in at the login screen we need to use the slash, as we are unfortunately tied to an active directory network which requires the user to login as "domainname \username" a couple of hours of searching has proved to be useless and i would rather not have to resort to re-installing the entire os to resolve this if possible, however that would mean i could keep the macbook away from the user for quite some time and hope to teach them a lesson ;) any ideas on how i can solve this problem? thanks On Tue, Jun 05, 2007 at 05:06:08PM -0000, canajien@gmail.com wrote: > the user of a macbook got to their new system before i could and chose > the canadian (french) language setting as default (when they just > wanted plain canadi...

How Do I Get Rid Of Coded Characters In An Access Database Memo Fields
The letter or symbol " " appears in the memo field of my Access database. I tried to use search and replace to delete it, but even though I can see it the search and replace feature can not find it. Get rid of "Add or remove buttons" dropdown menu on custom toolbar

How to get rid of "hex/oct constants > sys.maxint" warning?
I'm getting tired of seeing meaningless warnings from my code, but I can't figure out how to get rid of them: For example: fcntl.ioctl(fd,0xc0047a80,s) causes FutureWarning: hex/oct constants > sys.maxint will return positive values in Python 2.4 and up Firstly, I have no idea what that error means in this context. 0xc0047a80 isn't intended to be an integer (either positive or negative): it's just a chunk of 32 bits. Googling the newsgroup came up with the suggestion that putting an "L" on the end of the constant would eliminate the warning, but it causes an error: fcntl.ioctl(fd,0xc0047a80L,s) causes OverflowError: long int too large to convert to int So, that doesn't work.
