Transparency Issue

I'm working on a logo for my band. I scanned one drawing of the the band
name, and another of a logo. I want to put the words over the logo. Is
there a way make the background of the image with the words transparent,
so when I paste it over the logo, just the words show up? I have a free
application called paintbrush that I've been using. I don't have the
money, or the need for an expensive program. I'm using a Mac, but can
borrow my friend's Windows computer if there a no free programs out
there (for the Mac) that can do this task.

Thanks,
-Adam

You can certainly do that with Gimp (the Gnu Image Manipulation
Program), for one. It's free & open-source, and runs under X11 (OS X's
version of the X-Window environment).

Pages has a transparency feature too,
But working with anything other than perfect case examples can be very
tedious.
Still; Using the Outline tool, you can draw a mask around the object,
then isolate it so that it can then be used as a positive or negative
mask...?
Also; You can double click to end the outline, then select
transparency for the mask, leaving the outline only, and restarting
the outline by double clicking on the last point. For some reason,
this took me the longest time to figure out...!

These were Mostly ( 99% ) done with Pages, with some FinishUp help
from Graphic Converter.

HDs for graphics
Here's my scenario... can't afford to, can't afford not to. I've been working without a net for way too long and it's catching up to me. My only backup has been zips and they have proven inadequate and too costly. It seems that any technical knowledge I once had has either become out-dated or has been forgotten:( Problems that have been occurring: Not enough memory messages, not enough disk space messages, programs quitting, not a lot of freezing surprisingly. And, in high-res in Photoshop or Illustrator with raster images.... crawling-apply-a-brush-stroke-and-go-to-lunch SLOWWWWW. I know it was a lack of space and/or virtual memory that prevented a program from being able to print to file. There was enough space for the file, but I don't think the print monitor (or whatever) had the space/memory to finish the job. When I made enough space on my system partition I was able to output low-res for distiller finally, but still can't output high-res (this was a large graphics file). Working with virtual memory on doesn't seem to help, and sometimes seems to hurt. I allocated more memory to Photoshop and Illustrator to help speed them up, but this only served to reduce my scratch disk space and I still got "not enough memory" errors. I have a G4 Yikes, 350 MHz, 832MB ram, w/10GB Quantum hard drive. I am WAY over partitioned (5). First, should I replace the original or add a second hard drive? My concern is the age of the original (1999...

Transparant over transparant over ...
Hya, I'm looking for a way to create the following. I want to have a few circles (lets say 4) on top of each other. The bottom circle is the biggest, the top is the smallest. I want to have the effect of them really being on top of each other, but seen from above. From aside it would be something like (the dots are just for spacing) ....xx... ...xxxx.. ..xxxxxx. xxxxxxxx But next, I want all these circles to be transparant. I'm going to use this image on a website and want to be able to use any background color as possible. What is the best way to create this? I'm using The ...

Mac to mac
I just remembered these groups and wondered if someone here could tell me whether what I'd like to do is possible. (NO ONE around here knows anything about Macs) I have a G4 that was the top of the line in 1998. It will die one of these days. It's currently running OS 9.2.2. Someone else(who now lives far away) installed the internal modem, SCSI for my scanner, and my floppy drive (so I didn't have to go through hundreds of them for the bits and pieces I might someday want again). I still have the floppies and a number of Zips, all of which this computer can read. Install...

Hi all, I'm writing a small OBJ file loader, and I use an airplane .obj model to test it. However, I stumbled accross the following effect, which you can see here : http://students.ceid.upatras.gr/~mantesat/transp.JPG The canopy of the plane is semi transparent, but the pointed out triangles appear frequently when a ray starting from the view point intersects the canopoy surface more than once. What goes wrong in this case? Also, should transclucent objects always get rendered last, so as to be able to see obects behind them? In my case, I have to render the glass canopy always la...

When is a Mac not a Mac?
This was posted in a forum recently and I thought it brought up some very interesting points relating to the Eula. For reference: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=105546 ------ This question is related to licensing OS X on a machine. The EULA says it has to be an Apple computer, before the Apple License will apply, which means Apple will only support OS X on Apple machines. So, I'm wondering, when is a machine considered an Apple Mac, for the purposes of Licensing and recieving support? Say I buy a Mac from Apple. Then the hard drive fails, and I replace that with an ...

To Mac or not to Mac?
What ho, pre-pressers! Long time no post, or view, come to that. No doubt some of you will remember me as I see that many of same crowd are **STILL** here after all these years. Graphics Issue
Anticipating the release of SW2007, we upgraded my computer here at work since it was running Windows 2000. At the same time we decided to upgrade to SW Office Premium and add COSMOS. For this we decided to go 64Bit and buy a dual core processor. So here is what we ended up getting: Intel Pentium D 3.2ghz 4 gigs of ram nVidia Quadro FX540 200 GB Hard Drive Dual Layer DVD Bruner Windows XP Pro 64 Bit Dual 19" LCD running dual view set at 1280 x 1024 32-bit color (higest available) SW suggested Graphics Card Driver (passed all tests for 2006) So after hunting down the correct 64bit drivers for everything, and then discovering my serial port spaceball wont work with 64bit, we got it up and running. On my old machine I used to have a slight graphics problem where when I would click a menu on one of the drop down menus (e.g.= file > save), a ghost image of that would remain on the screen untill I clicked a different button, or zoomed out. Well now on the new machine, the same ghost image appears, but now it doesnt go away unless I change one of the setting like resolution in the screen settings. It stays on the screen no matter what application is running. See the attached image, does anyone have any ideas? Here is the link: http://putfile.com/pic.php?pic=6/18011273420.jpg&s=f5 Mike, Simple,,,,immature drivers and immature program. I takes Nvidia a while to get stuff right. The basic structure of the implementations is similar, but there's a fair bit of tweaking required to move the drawterm back end to P9P. Help! iSync mac to mac
Am I right in saying that with iSync, if you want to sync 2 macs together (address book, iCal etc.) the only way to do this is via a ..Mac account, even if those computers are sitting not 5 feet from each other, both Airport equipped? If this is the case, I've never heard anything so ridiculous. Is this just part of another apple scam to get more money out of us? o2 graphics issue.
okay this is rather weird, and its a problem I have had with my o2 since I have had it. Originally I thought it was due to the machine not having enough memory (64 Meg.) Well last week I got a further 128 meg for this machine and the problem was still there. I have also reinstalled IRIX (as I had also installed an A/V board) updated to 6.5.21m, and the issue is still there. Okay the problem is kinda hard to describe, but occurs with image view when resizing images and with adobe premier with video, and also with the demo distort. what seems to happen is the "whole&quo...
