Powerbook G4/1,67 with 4G RAM?

Hello.

About the last generation Powerbook G4/1,67MHz 15-inch with 1440 high
resolution [1]: Has anyone ever tried to install 2 x 2048M = 4096M memory
modules? Recently there are modules with the correct PC2-4200 533MHz DDR2
specifications of 2048 Mega Byte which haven't been available at that time.

The developer notes [2] clearly declare 2048M as the maximum configuration
level. Does this concern Apple's own operating system? Is this a
restriction of the hardware? Or does the restriction apply to the
Openfirmware?
The target operating system will be Linux.

Soon after this last version Apple discontinued the legendary Powerbook
series and published the Intel Macbooks. They had the same memory modules
like the last Powerbooks but with 4096M maximum configuration.

Regards,
Massimo

Fit and finish issue with new Powerbook G4 1.67 15"?
Hi. I just took delivery of a new Apple Powerbook G4 1.67GHz 15". I bought it from the Apple Store Online. When the display is closed, the left front corner of the lid is slightly higher than the right. If you put your finger on the left corner and press down, you can wiggle the lid and make the corners move up and down. The difference between corners at rest is about 1mm. The wiggling is about 1mm up and down. Is this normal, or a fit and finish issue? Is the lid warped? Should I send it back? Thanks, Roger Carlson Entity rogacasa@gmail.com uttered this profundity: > Hi. I jus...

Mac OS X 10.5/Leopard on an old PowerBook (PPC) G4 1 Ghz with 512 MB of RAM & 60 GB HDD?
Hello, I have an old PowerBook G4 (PPC) with 1 Ghz CPU speed, 512 MB of RAM, and 60 GB of HDD. If I were to do a fresh clean install of Mac OS X 10.5/Leopard on it (still have 10.2.8 on it and seems fine, just old), then how will it perform? Will it be slower? Or should I just wait until I get a new Apple notebook/laptop (e.g., MacBook)? I am a heavy user who likes to run Fink stuff for X11, play hungry power games (e.g., MacMAME, Quake 3 Arena and its mods) Thank you in advance. -- "We may have no malevolent intentions toward an ant heap, but if we want to build a house on the ...

Does my PowerBook G4 15" (1 Ghz) have USB2 support or only 1.1?
Hi. I cannot find the detailed specifications on the USB speed on my PowerBook G4 1 Ghz (15") that I bought a year ago. I checked its manual and Apple's Web site. Installing Linux on a powerpc Mac: powermac powerbook G4 mandrake 9.1 vs. gentoo PPC 1.4 vs. yellow dog 3.0.1 (yellowdog)
Forget Mandrake 9.1 for powerpc: The installer is seriously buggy. It wouldn't read the A key on my G4 powerbook nor did it have support for my video card. It couldn't even read the disk on my powermac G4. There are numerous bugs in the software and problems with partitioning. Since it is what I had first, I tried to install it a score of times before my list of workarounds ended up in a dead end with no video card support on the powerbook. Gentoo is a thing of beauty. Unfortunately, it doesn't understand the most recent firmware on my G4 powermac and yaboot couldn't mount ...

So let me ask you a couple of questions about your second, as YDL2.2 and 2.3 were non-starters on an older PPC of mine. What version of...

ibook g4 12.1in vs powerbook g4 12.1
I'm new to the apple. I've been using a pc all my life. I need to pickup a apple soon and I wanted to find out the differences between those two models. And I mean the newest models. I hear even the ibook now has 54g as standard. Its a price difference of about $500. Both have the same screen. One has a better video card (both models seems to have low end cards considering my laptop that I have to use now has a Gforce 5750 w/128mb). I'll be using it as a laptop. No hooking up to a larger screen. Would it be worth moving up to a $1500 laptop vs the $1k ibook? I ...

RAM for PowerBook G4
I never upgraded to 1Gb because I would have had to replace 2-256Mb chips with 2-512Mb chips. Now, I have read, there are 1Gb chips out. Does anybody know if a PowerBook will recognize them? I might be willing to spend the money on 2-1Gb chips, or even just put in one and keep the other 256Mb chip, if that is possible. If the PowerBook can use them, does anybody know a source, part number, price, whatever? Is it posssible just to use one? -- Robert B. PowerBook G4 1 GHz performance
Greetings, I am new to "Apple family", only recently bought the above laptop. While I am impressed with the quality of the machine and its fantastic ability to display graphics, I am disappointed with its speed related to editing of my photos in Photoshop CS. Most of my photos are RAWs, converted into about 24 Mb TIFF files. The process of opening multiple photographs is also painful. Could you please advise, whether increasing RAM is going to offer a dramatic difference? I currently have 768Mb RAM, 167 bus speed (it is an aluminium model) I know, that more RAM (for w...
