Which X11 with Panther?

Hi all,

I'm using my Powerbook as a development/research system for UNIX
applications, and I spend about 90% of my time in X11/fullscreen with
Emacs and some xterms.

I ran Jaguar first with the original XDarwin implementation (slow, but
worked), then Apple's X11 Public Beta (no fullscreen mode, ugh!), and
finally with XFree86 4.3, which worked very nicely indeed.

Last December I installed Panther, and went with Apple's X11 again. It
generally works ok, and is pretty fast. Also, the ability to switch
between rootless and fullscreen while X is running is very
cool. However, there are two problems I have:

- No cut and paste between X and Aqua (using blackbox as a WM)
- X occasionally freezes or, more often, dies when switching from Aqua
  to fullscreen X.

Does anybody else have similar experiences? Should I switch back to
the Finks XFree version? BTW, I like the behaviour of XDarwin in the
dock (switch to X11 whenever clicked) a lot better than that of
X11.app (switch to X11 when clicking causes application change to X11,
do nothing otherwise).

Bye,

    Stephan
