Command-clicking URLs in text documents seems to work after a fashion on
my new 10.2.6 machine, but it wakes up OS 9 (which I have never used on
this machine) and Outlook Express (which I don't use for mail, and have
never used for newsgroups) when I command-click a url starting with
'news:', or containing '@'. Does anyone know how to change OS X
Command-click so I can specify an OS X native newsreader?

Email client is set in the Internet preferences pane. But to set the
newsreader requires some other mechanism, such the protocol helpers
preference in Internet Explorer. This is because Apple has failed to
provide direct access to a lot of internet-config settings. m.

Look for More Internet on versiontracker.com:
<http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/16066>
It's a freeware preference pane that lets you specify all your internet
apps.
