Data Recovery after Re-installation

  • Follow

I recently reinstalled OS X 10.4 on my Intel MacBook Pro --
unfortunately (for me) I forgot to backup one very important file.

I have not used the MacBook since re-installing the operating system
-- it's still sitting at the new user signup screen.

Can anyone recommend a process or software that can help me recover
this data?

Thanks,

Depending on where the file was you're probably screwed.

If you did an Erase & Install, you'll need to get Data Rescue:
<http://www.prosofteng.com/>. But if you did an Update, or an Archive &
Install with keeping users, your data ought to still be there.

You re-install the operating system without backup and you want your
data back. You can only if data has not been overwritten. There are
tools which provides data recovery from mac volumes. You can give a
try to Stellar Phoenix Macintosh Data Recovery Software. Download the
free demo version from the site: http://www.macintosh-data-recovery.com/
Demo will let you see the preview of the recovered data, if it shows
you the data then it means it will provide the recovery.

stay away! this product does not work very well at all (last time i
tried it, it found *nothing*) and it's also repeatedly spammed to
newsgroups. plus, it's rather amusing that the 'reviews and awards'
section of their web site geared for *mac* users lists *pc* magazines
praising it.

stick with trusted recovery tools such as data rescue, which is not
only excellent, but it's cheaper too.

When the HFS, HFS file system and MAC hard disks get corrupted, damaged, fo=
rmatted or deleted due to any problem, user loses the entire data stored in=
the drive. In order to recover the lost data, ideal software of Mac data r=
ecovery can be used. The software help you recover every trace of the data =
from every single sector. you can download this software from here http://w=

Like I'd trust some scum sucking company that advertises their
questionable services via SPAM. Go back to working as a General
Contractor and screw customers. Or selling cars. Or selling
step-in-showers to the elderly.
