I can't change my screen name when using rendezvous. I have changed it
in the preferences but to no avail. I am running iChat 1.0 on a 550mhz
tibook with 10.2.8. Any ideas?

In iChat's Rendezvous chatting, it uses your user name, not a screen 
name.  That is, the long name you're known by in the login window.  If 
you want a different name, then change your long user name.

Hi Steve,
I have just checked this out and it still doesn't alter. I presume you mean
system prefs, system, accounts or my accounts? Neither of these names are
the same as the one in ichat. I'm a bit stuck, any ideas?

Try the name in your Address Book card.
