Mail refuses to get mail

2 weeks ago I noticed that Mail.app didn't get the mail from 1 of my 2 IMAP
accounts (set to collect mail every 5 minutes). The other account, on the
same server continued working normally. The problem was solved after a
reboot.

Yesterday the other account was stuck in the same way. This time a relaunch
of Mail.app sufficed. Strange and nasty problem. Anyone experiencing similar
problems? Any permanent solutions except switching to another e-mail client?
(I am considering Thunderbird now).

System:
Intel iMac, 24", 2.8 GHz, 4 Gb RAM
Snow Leopard 10.6.1
Mail 4.1

In the current Mail.App:

Window -> Connection Doctor and once in that window: Show details. You
get to see a log of actual transactions and this may give you a hint of
what is not working.

Thnx JF, but I'll have to wait until it happens again before this may show
anything.

Might be worthwhile to get a reading on it when it's working right; then
you'll have a benchmark to compare to. Then too, you may find out that
it's having problems every time, but most of them not severe enough to
cause the fetch to fail.

I will try, Isaac, but so far there is no report at all: The lights are
all green and the textboxes are empty.

Mail corrupts its local cache occasionally. The menu Mailbox -> Rebuild
fixes it. A recent server update at work reduces the occurrences but
there are still cases where it can happen.

It's probably a good idea to switch to the "submission port" instead. I don't use Apple's Mail program for my .Mac account and don't know just now where to go there for setting this, but it's an automatic option I use with Eudora. Check mail: Why do I have to do it twice to get my mail?
Setup: XP Pro, Eudora 6.1.2.0, POP3, 3 megabit cable modem Almost always when I open Eudora it retrieves one or two messages and then stops the retrieval process. The new messages are displayed in the In box normally. In order to retrieve the rest of my messages I have to click the "Check Mail" button, after which the rest of my mail is downloaded, sometimes scores of messages. I'm puzzled as to why I have to do this. Surely Eudora should be retrieving ALL my mail on the server when I launch the program? BTW, I have determined that this has nothing to do with Eudora pausing to allow the disk to spin up. [Eudora and Mail] Importing e-mail into Mail ?
Hi, After many years using Eudora, I think it is time to switch. Eudora is corrupting its mailboxes, old messages tend to mix up and become unreadable. This is unfortunate as otherwise Eudora does the right things for me. So the questions are : - which e-mail app do you recommend (on a PowerBook G4/667, 10.4.10) ? - I am currently trying Mail; succeeded in importing the Eudora mailboxes except the Inbox (1GB) -> how do I import it ??? CAB Try Eudora Mailbox Cleaner. Worked perfectly for me. Jenny On Oct 16, 11:40 pm, cab <v...@nospam.com> wrote: > Hi, > After many years using Eudora, I think it is time to switch. Mail and mail directories
I use pine to access my mail (via login to an IMAP server). Pine seems to create two directories <home>/Mail and <home>/mail, and both directories seem to contain identical copies of all my folders. Is there a configuration option that will ensure that pine maintains only one such directory? Thanks Jay *** Jay Gopalakrishnan (nspmjayg@math.ufl.edu.nsp) wrote in comp.mail.pine...: :) I use pine to access my mail (via login to an IMAP server). It is possible that this may break other applications (e.g. Mutt). Hopefully it won't. Mail will not send mail but will receive mail
At work I have a Wallstreet with Jaguar connected to a DSL line. Up until a couple days ago I have been able to use my personal ISP smtp address to send and receive mail. This is not the same company as the DSL provider. A couple days ago I was able to receive posts but not send them. I tried repairing permissions, and trashing the Mail prefs. Finally I emailed my ISP and the response was that I have to use the DSL carrier's smtp address. Yet, I've been using my personal ISP's smtp address for about a year. At home I use a dialup with the ISP and everything works fi...

Thanks Eduardo!! I'll never change from Pine. That's for sure. > http://www.math.washington.edu/~chappa/pine/ Excellent! I found this patch "Change your From Header without any effort!". This is jst what I have been wanted for a long time, as I would like to change my email when using mailinglists.
