Making Image of OS 9

  • Follow

I am new to MACs and I must say that the GUI takes a bit to get used
to.

Question:

I have a G4 with OS 9.2 AND OS X.
I would like to make an image of the OS 9.2 "partition?" since all my
programs are installed on that partition.

I have read that OS X can do this, but if I create the image in OS X,
will it image the OS 9.2 partition as well?

I would like to do this for disaster recovery reasons.

Thank you for any assistance.

Unless you specifically partitioned the drive, there is no OS 9 partition and
OS X partition. You have a hard drive; all your stuff lives in the same place,
on that hard drive, regardless of whether it's OS 9 stuff or OS X stuff.

MACs?

I think it would be easier to simply copy all the programs to some other
place. Making an image of an entire partition requires lots of space
while being made and a lot of space when being stored later.

It images whatever device you tell it to image.

There is probably a good backup solution available for Mac OS and Mac OS
X.

The Mac OS pales in this catagory when compared to Windows which offers Norton
Ghost. For backup, I'd suggest you purchase Retrospect. Its not the same as
Ghost, but it will do.

You might want to take a look at Carbon Copy Cloner (veriontracker.com
is probably the best place to look for Mac software).
