In 2008 I bought a new Mac Pro. I wanted both memory and internal hard
drives. I bought them both from Memory America. Their prices were OK,
and they were very helpful in making the choice of memory.

I used to recommend http://ramseeker.com, but they've completely screwed
that web site up. I typically buy my RAM from http://crucial.com. Have a
look there.

Nope.

I prefer Data Memory Systems. Their prices are reasonable and they
actually treat customer service not as an oxymoron. It's also easy to
navigate their website.
I have no connection with them other than a proud customer of theirs for
nearly two decades.

I used to use DMS too, but after having a couple sticks go bad, I
decided to switch to another makers/reseller. I've never had a stick of
Crucial go bad on me (knock on wood).

I thought I had a bad Crucial stick in the iMac I'm typing this on, but
now I'm not so sure. I had upgraded from the shipped 4 GB to 12 GB by
adding a pair of Crucial 4GB sticks. After a while, I started getting
increasing numbers of kernel panics. Got up to happening every few days,
which was anoying. Several kinds of memory tests showed nothing, even
run overnight. Tried pulling and reseating the RAM multiple times, to no
avail. I then pulled out the Crucial memory, going back down to 4 GB.
(Fortunately, I've move most of my gaming to a WIndows 7 machine, or I'd
have felt the 4 GB pretty painful). No kernel panics for a solid month.
Aha, I said to myself, that verifies my suspicion that it was RAM
related. So I stuck one stick back in. Ran for a month with no panics.
Swapped in the other stick; ran for a month with no panics. Hmm... maybe
it is the slot instead of the stick. Try a stick in the other slot. Ran
for a month with no panics. Hmm again... Maybe software problem relating
to total amount of memory? Ok, stick all the RAM back in. It's been over
a month with no panics.
All this took quite a while as you can tell from adding up the months
mentioned above. This machine is nearing the end of its AppleCAre
coverage, so I wanted to find if there was something wrong with the
machine itself. I knew that if I took it to Apple with the 3rd party RAM
in, about the first thing they would do is remove that and test, which
is why I started down that path myself.
Beats me. Guess it was a Heissenberg (goes away when you look at it). I
guess what it amounts to in the end is that pulling and putting the
memory back in eventually solved it. But I had tried that several times
before. Guess I shouldn't complain as it is working fine now. Voodoo.
I definitely got a bad Kingston chip for another system of mine about a
year ago. New Mini would not power up with that stick in. Reseated
multiple times. Swapped what chips were in the system multiple times.
Quite consistent; nogo when that chip was in. But it was replaced with
no fuss and the replacement worked fine.

I've been buying from them for a long time, but crucial's memory finder
is a lot better than anything DMS has.

Another vote for Crucial. Their memory apps have worked fine for me on a
variety of PC and Mac systems and have given me the necessary information
to walk into a high street outlet when I wanted the RAM Right Now rather
than waiting for a postal delivery. They also gave me excellent
telephone support when I needed it many years ago.

I like RamJet <http://www.ramjet.com/?src=macintouch>. Very
knowledgeable and helpful. Lifetime guarantee. Also, guarantee that the
memory will work with any successive OS Apple releases for your Mac.
(This had been a problem in the past with some memory and new OS
versions.) Good prices. And they support the Macintouch website.
