We have one particular G5 running 10.3.9 that is unable to print to a
shared Canon i9900 on our network. The problem is not specific to a
single user on that G5.
The shared printer shows up in Printer Setup Utility, and the G5 is
able to connect to the Mac sharing it via filesharing.
On printing, the error message is:
"Unable to lookup host Acrobat.local. Unkown host."
Any hints as to where to troubleshoot this is appreciated.
I've deleted chaches, repaired permissions, deleted the driver for the
printer and reinstalled the latest version...
Other G5s running the same software and OS are able to print to this
printer without a problem.
Thanks in advance,
djb

looks suspiciously dns related, or maybe some unnoticed typo
in its settings perhaps, can the machine in question connect
to anything else?

This particular shared printer (it's a USB one, hanging off another G5)
is the only device on the network this box has trouble with.
The Network prefs pane is configured properly, but it's not user
specific... Should I be looking in NetInfo Manager?
Tnx

xyz.local is typically associated with boujour (aka Rendezvous, or
zeroconf).
This protocol will not cross a router.
Do you have more than one Cable/DSL router in your home? for
example a Cable/DSL Router with some computers connected to it,
and a WiFi Cable/DSL router attached to the first router to give
you WiFi access for other computers?
Or do you have 2 cascading Cable/DSL routers to extend the range
of networking in your home?
Generally you should only have one active router in your home
(excepts always apply, but that is the rare exception).
Most Cable/DSL Routers can be changed into a bridge device by
telling the router to _NOT_ distribute DHCP addresses, and to
_NOT_ be a NAT server. The Apple Airport base stations models
can be turned into WiFi bridge devices by turning off "Distribute
IP addresses" in the Airport Admin Utility -> Network tab.
