Help - G4 wont start up!!!
My G4 is playing up + i can't figure out why. Sometimes it will start and
others it wont find the hard drive. A screen with a mac logo that changes to
a ? comes on and i have to keep restarting until it does find the hard
drive.
I've tried starting without peripherals one by one and all together but it
doesn't seem to be any external hardware.
I've noticed that when it does start up, if i restart it properly it is
fine. If i shut it down properly it sometimes wont start back up + when the
computer goes to sleep it wont wake up.
Please help - if you need more info just ask
Thanks

Which OS??? What utilities do you have?
Do you have backup in case your HD is going?

Running OS 9.2.2. Yes, back up is sorted, so no worries there.
After more research i am starting to think it is either the Logic Board or
some sort of software conflict. Though, if it was software, would it start
sometimes + not others or would it just not start at all until the problem
was sorted.
Unless someone has a clear idea of what it might be, i am going to try a
clean re-install to eliminate the software idea. If that doesn't solve it, i
think it'll have to go back to apple to have the logic board replaced
(unless they can suggest different).
Thanks

It sounds like your hard drive might be failing. Without more details
about your Mac, saying anything more on this subject is difficult. Which
operating system are you running? Which G4?

Hi. Thanks for your reply.
Yeah, your right. It is the hard drive. I tried one from another mac and
found that ran perfectly. I then tried the faulty hard drive in the mac that
i got the other hard drive from and had the same problems. Have now ordered
another and waiting for delivery tomorrow. Here's hopin...
Thanks again!
