Hi Paul. Thanks for the e-mail message btw. I'm not a fan of the
Sinclair QL (yet) but I know a gentleman that might be interested in
knowing what you may have found. His name is Rich Mellor and he's
still a QL user. I'll be glad to forward his contact info to you if
needed.

Hi Paul,

Yes I would be interested - particularly as we are trying to preserve
as much QL software as possible and document it on the Sinclair QL

Rich, the gentleman's name is actually Walter. My son (Paul) was
calling me when I was typing the above post and ended up typing "Paul"
instead of "Walter".

Rich,

What I have besides the QL computer and the material
that came with it as part of the package is,

- QL Superforth with Super reversi
      quick glance is Forth 83
- Prospero Software Pro Fortran
- PSION QL Data Base Word Processor Business Graphics
- Datalink Systems CAD PAK
- Sinclair QL Technical guide
- GST Computer Systems Sinclair QL Assembler
- Qjump Sinclair QL Toolkit
- Qjump QL Monitor

We have a lot of personal development material from the 80's
that should be preserved as a snap shot into a time when
personal computers were rare and un-reliable.

I have been talking to a couple historians to sort through
the tradeshow literature and publications of the era and
have talked to one computer museum about some of
the hardware.

Hi Walter,

By all means I would love to get hold of this and any personal
development material relating to the QL or other Sinclairs. I run the
Sinclair ZX80/ZX81 forums and am involved in trying to get some new
projects off the ground for all the Sinclair computers - see
www.rwapsoftware.co.uk
and
http://www.rwapservices.co.uk/ZX80_ZX81/forums/

Please email me privately - rich AT rwapservices DOT co DOT uk and
maybe we can arrange something with these - obviously post and packing
from Canada will be substantial, but I am happy to reimburse this if
there is a fair amount of material (I am in the UK)

Extremely rare example of a Sinclair QL with Dongle
We have now managed to resurrect an early example of the Sinclair QL home computer as it was first unveiled to the expectant media, complete with the slow v1 Psion software and the infamous Dongle (or Kludge) which contained one third of the QL's operating system. In 26 years of being involved with the QL, this is the first example we have ever come across and we have managed to resurrect it, complete with early microdrive units and the AH operating system and very early First Edition manual (predates the First Edition dated 6/84). All of these machines were sent back to Sinclair for upgrades (to replace the operating system with one needing two ROM chips fitted internally, plus various hardware modifications to make the QL more reliable and even useable!). We even found one of the three EPROM chips required for the PM version of QDOS. Unfortunately, the other two chips (and their code) are missing. PM was one of the earliest versions of QDOS (pre-release). It was followed by FB which may never have left the factory - we know that Psion had to alter their boot programs to cope with the difference in the AT command in the FB ROM compared to later QL ROMs (they didn't bother checking for the earlier PM ROM). No-one else had to make this change or ever use it, so it looks as though by the time the public got their hands on the QL, the operating system was at least AH (which was soon followed by JM, JS and MG ROMs). The biggest surprise to us when putting this mac...

Sinclair on BBC4
Sir Clive jumping over some computers (or something), the ZX80, 81 and Spectrum and some interviews make it into BBC4's Time Shift: Hard Drive Heaven (The History Of Home Computers). For once, Sinclair gets the air-time he deserves as a rather more accurate picture of the history of computers (in the home) is broadcast at long last. No more is the Spectrum cast aside while boring people discuss which version of Windows is the best. The only computer which compares on air-time is, unsurprisingly, the BBC Micro. Unfortunately the Amiga doesn't even get a passing mention (although you do get to see one briefly, and the blue and orange tones of Workbench 1.3 are clearly visible in the background in one scene), which is IMHO a bit of an oversight especially considering the BBC (erm, Micro) wasn't anywhere near as popular in the home, but I digress. Even the Darling Brothers are in on the act. If you are "digital enabled" and see this message in time, tune into BBC4 for the repeat at 1am. CPM for Sinclair?
Since the Sinclair was Z80 based, was there ever a version of CP/M made? Or were they too 'non standard' to pull that off?
