Timex Interface RS232

Hi,

I just purchased a Timex Interface RS232, the documentation (a leaflet)
says it is usable on a 2068, and specturm - is it usable on the
1000/81?

Probably depends on the width of the edge connector fitted and rom/software
support and clashes with other hardware.

Yes, it should be working with 1000/81 too. I have the schematic and it is
really simple.

Does anyone kinow how to access the rs232 with the Ts1000? It didn't
come with anything but the leaflet telling to load the tape first -
which I don't have and then how to use it with the 2048, 2068

My schematic is now up at www.fischerkai.de/zxteam/rs232_sch.pdf
I didn't try to get it working yet, but this IF works really at a low level.
No parallel/serial converter, no buffer, no timer. It has all to be done
with software. With our serial interface at the PIO, the ZX runs up to 9600
baud, only in FAST mode. Think the routines may be adaptable.
Kai.

Hey Bill, if 46 pins on the edge connector then it is also ZX81 compatible.

If it is compatible with the ZX81 Westridge or Byte-Back modem and similar
RS232 interface then you can use the Silicon Mountain ZX TERM80 terminal
program by Fred Nachbaur which (if I remember right) can do 1200 baud in the
slow mode.

http://www.user.dccnet.com/wrigter/index_files/ZXT80.P

This program runs fine in the EightyOne emulator but of course can't talk
to the world. Fred considered ZXT80 his most successful commercial
program.

It generates 32/40/60 columns of hires upper and lower case and special
characters on a ZX81.

The program can be customized for any other hardware. You can set up up
the protocol manually and add a short driver routine. Bit bangers will
require too much overhead for slow mode operation but why not use a UART.

For a short description of the features in Fred's own words check out

http://www.btinternet.com/~techworlde/fredn.htm

I may have a copy of the documentation somewhere.

RS232 Interface
Hi I have an evaluation board with a target and a control FPGA. The control FPGA is connected to the target FPGA over 32-bit local bus and can write the data to a host PC over a RS232 interface. Both FPGAs are internally clocked with 24MHz. So I have to implement on the control FPGA a transmitter that gathers the 32 bits and sends them in 8 bit chunks to the host PC. I wonder if somebody has some helpful ressources how to implement such an simple interface. Also I have to implement a suitable divisor for the baudgenerator to generate 115200 Hz from 24MHz. Would be thankful for helpful co...

RS232 interface
My ZX Spectrum +2 died a long time ago. But I still have the manual, which reminds me that the +2 has a RS232 interface. Does the 128K, +2A and/or the +3 have a similar interface? How do I use this interface, both in BASIC and machine code? Presumably, in BASIC I'd follow the Interface 1 manual: 10 LET baudrate=19200 20 FORMAT "b"; baudrate 30 OPEN #4;"b" 40 PRINT #4; INKEY$; 50 GOTO 40 Or use FORMAT "t"; baudrate for text input. A. J. a question about Timex Sinclairs
I know, that Timex Sinclair machines have been sold in the USA where there is NTSC TV system which has 30 halfframes, therefore 60Hz of vertical refresh of the screen. All games I met on my ZX Spectrum were synchronized for 50Hz PAL and this was specified by ULA's generated im2 interrupt, which is 1/50 of second and the interrupt is generated exactly when the TV screen ray position is on the top left edge of the screen. This thing has been used in multicolour programs. I am asking how this was figured out in Timex Sinclairs, if multicolours were compatible and other games which wer...
