Installing Forte Compilers via Disk

  • Follow

Has anyone figured out a way to install the Forte 7 Compiler Collection
from a local drive? It keeps wanting the CDROM which is the most
ridiculous thing I have ever seen. I have tried exporting the cdrom from
my workstation, and about 15 other hacks but it still will not install.

Need more information.

What is the mysterious "it" in "it keeps wanting"?

(And note, a CD is also a "local drive")

Sorry I was not more descriptive, was in a hurry.

Okay, what I am trying to do is install the Forte Compiler Collection 7
from an NFS software repository. For some reason, the installer requires
the CD to be in the local CDROM. (I think it actually queries vold
somehow) I tried to dupe it by linking and replacing /cdrom/<mount name>
but it did not work.

The install guide says nothing about a non-CD install, it does mention a
console based install but that was not what I needed.

Older versions of the compilers could be installed from a local copy, it
will not work with 7.

Very annoying when you need to deploy compilers to worksdtations all
over are building.

It does not make sense, it can't be any kind of anti-piracy mechanism
because the install let's you generate a 60 key, so what is that preventing?

Anyway, that for any help,
CC

I've had no problems installing Forte 7 via NFS. I just copied the
entire CD into a directory on my shared filesystem. I don't really
exactly, but I think I used cpio. I don't use the graphical install,
instead changing to the image directory, and running ./installer
-nodisplay
