Solaris 8 -> Linksys Router -> Cable Modem...Need DHCP Help

  • Follow

I've got a sparc20 with an onboard and third party NIC installed. I am
running Solaris 8 2/02 freshly installed with the non-networked option. My
setup is Sparc20 (Solaris 8) -> Linksys BEFW11S4 v2 Router (with a Windows
XP Pro PC and Windows XP Pro laptop connected wirelessly and my xbox and ps2
hooked up to the switch in the back of the router) -> Motorola Cable Modem
(Charter Pipeline). All of the Windows and game systems work fine with DHCP.
Now I want to set up the spacr20 system for DHCP. What do I do? I have tried
the rite consulting faqs and many other faqs and nothing seems to work. I
have rebuilt the system 4 times because I continually changed too many files
to get things to work. The farthest I got was pinging the router. Could
someone please tell me the steps that I should take to get my sparc20
connected to the internet using DHCP? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
This has been a 2 month process. I had it connected and working before I
moved, but after the move I reinstalled the Solaris 8 software and now I
forgot how I got this to work. Thanks in advance!

If you do:

	sys-unconfig

then, on reboot, it should ask about DHCP, and offer to configure
accordingly.

If Neil's advice doesn't work, drop me a line and I'll
try to sort you out. (I wrote the Soalris DHCP you
refer to.)

I tried sys-unconfig about 3 times and was unsuccessful. Thanks for the help
though.
