Sparc 10 Question
I don't know if this is the right place to ask this question, but I'll start
here first...
A friend gave me an old Sparc 10 that he didn't want any more. He hasn't
used it in years. He'd loaded Debian Linux on it and the original Solaris
wasn't in the boxes he gave me. I can't log on, because he's fogotten the
root password. I was going to reload Linux on it, but how do I get the
system to boot from the CD ROM drive?
Thanks,
Mark

From the boot prompt (Stop-A to get there) type:
boot cdrom

Hi,
Are we talking about Sun SparcStation 10 ?
1) Can Debian Linux or someother linux flavour actually run on Sun SS10
?
2) What other operating system can Sun SS10 run beside Sun OS 4.x ?
3) Where can we get the " system administrator manual " on the above ?

A Sparc 10 can run all versions of Solaris except for Solaris 10.

Yes. Splack 8.0 runs rather well, Assorted BSD variants are also OK.

Solaris up to Solaris 9, if you have sufficient memory.
Solaris 2.6 is happy with only 32Mb. 7, 8 and 9 need progressively more.

You probably want the Field Engineers Handbook.
http://www.SunShack.org/
All Solaris versions are documented at http://docs.sun.com/
