We are getting intermittent memory errors on a number of our systems.
In the text of the error message, it mentions a UDBH Syndrome Memory
Module Board and a UDBL Syndrome Memory Module Board. I basically
understand what I should be watching for with memory errors (multiple
errors same day, same DIMM). My question is simply what do UDBH and
UDBL stand for? My searches through sunsolve have turned up empty.

Thank you for the information. Seeing the answer to my question makes
me realize that my question really should have been what is a "UDBH/L
Syndrome" in reference to a memory module.
Also, I have seen several postings that state that more than 3-4
errors per day on the same DIMM indicates a problem that needs to be
addressed (reseating, replacement, etc). Does anybody know if this is
in writing somewhere (preferably in a Sun doc)? In the past, our
internal hardware folks have been reluctant to fix problems because
the errors have all been correctable and nobody has complained about
any application errors that could be attributed to the memory problem.
Why do I get out of memory errors when 10GB memory is free?
I am on HP UNIX 64bit 11.23 titanium using oracle 10.2.0.3. My server
has 24GB memory and of that 10GB is free (as seen in glance). When I
doing oracle exp or rman commands, I get:
ORA-04030: out of process memory when trying to allocate 1049112 bytes
(KSFQ heap,KSFQ Buffers)
I checked both rman and exp are 64bit executables, so they should be
able to access all the memory on the system.

Nothing else seems to be a problem, but this is worrisome.
Unzip: Memory Error I am trying to unzip an 18mb zip containing just a single 200mb file

If you are using a SPARC based machine, the Open Boot PROM (OBP) tests
memory at power up. I believe you can also initiate a test manually.
There is VTS from Sun. Or use SETI - It has found more memory problems
from its load weight than any other tool that I know of.

Memory allocation error When my program terminates, I get a memory allocation error. I assume,
one of my pointers is writing outside the memory area of my program and
corrupts the DOS memory chain.
Is there a means to scan the memory area outside my program's memory
area to see when something is modified there?
I use TASM, can I use a "Changed memory global" breakpoint in the
Debugger for this? How do you specify a "memory referencing expression"

-Xmx out of memory errors That java gets out of memory errors, and that the maximum heap sizeneeds to be controlled by a flag has always bugged me. Why is this so?Most systems already have mechanisms in place to set hard limits(getrlimit, setrlimit) on resource usage, and have mechanisms toincrease the number of pages available for memory management (brk, sbrk). Why doesn't java just rely on these instead of putting extrahard limits on memory? Also, is it at all possible to turn this behavior off? I find thatmany java programs eventually run into and crash on their default maxheap size. It would be nice to have a way...

Re: error handling and virtual memory
Thanks to Ken Sharp for his error handling routine. In reply to my question

Memory segment error in dlopen call Hello!
I'm using KAI C++ Compiler (KCC) Version 4.0d on Sparc Solaris 8 with

uses the Sun compiler to produce machine executables). When I run our

Bus Error (Segmentation Fault) reading PCI device memory I'm porting a device driver to Solaris 9 x86 for a PCI device, and I
get a Bus Error (segmentation fault) when attempting to read the
device, both from Kernel mode and from user mode.

which is 0x80000 in length, but past an offset of 0x1a000 I get a bus
I ran my user-mode test program with the debugger (gdb). The program
ended with a bus error after attempting to read from an offset of
0x40008. Then I tried inspecting the m_pHardware variable (which is
mapped to the device register #2). Below is the program out...
getting the message "ERROR: A memory allocation request failed." with compiled matlab Hi
A basic question since I am new to using compiled Matlab.
I am getting the error message: "ERROR: A memory allocation request
when I run a code in compiled matlab in batch mode. can someone tell
me when this error occurs? Is it because I am short on memory or is it
because of some other reason?
Also is there a way to pin down which variable was cauing trouble?
I am running Matlab 13 on Linux. I would have thought that memory
wouldn;t be a issue.
Generally speaking, this means that something bad happened inside the memory
manager. Broadly, there are two poss...
memory mapped IO: device registers mapped to virtual memory or physical memory? Hi -
I know memory mapped IO is about mapping device/controller registers to
memory space in order to reduce the number of processor instructions
(and simplify device driver writing) . My question is: are device
registers mapped to virtual memory or physical memory? I suspect the
former, and I have looked up a number of texts but everyone just seems
to skirt about the issue.

Virtual memory and memory protection Dear all,
I went through one good tutorial on virtual memory in this website:
The article says that virtual memory can help in protecting memory of
the applications process. That means each individual process running in
the CPUs memory can be protected.
I am not able to realise how this could help in protection?AFAIK,MMUs
are the ones which help in memory protection and that too MMUS are
implemented in Hardware where you could set some registers to prevent
the processes from crossing boundaries and hence they can protec...
