Unable to boot disk : FAST DATA Access MMU Miss

  • Follow

hello,
I've juste installed Solaris 2.6 on my machine ultra 60. The probleme
is that I can't boot the computer from the disk.
I just wrote : boot (or boot -s)
and this message appeared : FAST DATA Access MMU Miss
And the prompt ok came again.

Can you help me to rewrite the boot sector? I think that's the problem
but I do it three times and that's allready the same thing.
Thanks for your help.

I have vague memories of getting this error when trying to use a
system image which doesn't have support for the machine that you
are trying to boot (in my case I was trying to transplant a root
disk from one type of Sun workstation to another).

Are you sure that the version of 2.6 that you installed is properly
compatible with your Ultra 60? Googling for '"solaris versions"
"ultra 60"' took me to some pages that suggest you need at least
2.6 H/W release 3/98 or 5/98 (depending on processor speed).

Regards,

For faster CPUs Solaris 2.6 installation involved first using
an "operating environment" cd which contained a mini-root with
extra drivers iirc.
