SN#10953 Sun Offers Oracle Database 10g Customers Multiple Platform Capability

SYSTEM NEWS FOR SUN USERS
Vol 67 Issue 2 2003-09-08 Article 10953 from section "Oracle"

Available for Solaris[TM] Operating System, Linux and Solaris OS (x86 Platform Edition)

Sun now offers Oracle Database 10g customers multiple UNIX[R]-based
platforms -- the Solaris[TM] Operating System (Solaris OS) and
UltraSPARC[R] processor; Linux-based systems; and, for the first time,
Solaris OS (x86 Platform Edition) based systems -- to help businesses
reduce cost and lay the foundation for the data center of the future.

Sun is also continuing the joint development of Sun N1[TM] technology
integration with Oracle, aiming to reduce cost and complexity at both
the infrastructure and application levels and extend choice, value and
enterprise-level features in the low-cost computing space.

In addition to the three systems mentioned above, Oracle Database 10g
will run on the Sun N1[TM] Provisioning Server 3.0 Blades Edition, which
is the industry's first blade virtualization solution. As a component of
the management environment for the Sun Fire[TM] Blade Platform, it
enables users to rapidly design, configure, provision and scale
        blade-based server farms automatically.

To help customers stay focused on their business rather than their data
center, Sun systematically addresses interoperability and performance
variations with the "Solaris Train" quality assurance test conducted
every quarter running Oracle database solutions on 32- and 64-bit, RAC
        and single node systems.

The Solaris OS quality assurance process is top priority to ensure
continued reliability, security and scalability. This and other quality
assurance benefits are available to customers through Sun and Oracle's
21-year commitment to help ensure rapid deployment, reduced complexity,
improved price/performance, and 24x7 joint service and support for
        customers.

SN#13103 Sun Offers Temporary Capacity on Demand for Sun Fire[TM] Servers
SYSTEM NEWS FOR SUN USERS Vol 76 Issue 1 2004-06-01 Article 13103 from section "Servers" Sun now features enhancements to its Capacity on Demand (COD) 2.0 offering that allow users of the Sun Fire[TM] 3800, 4800 and 6800 servers, the Sun Fire[TM] 12K and 15K servers and the Sun Fire[TM] E4900 and E6900 servers to purchase Right-to-Use licenses for CPUs and/or memory on COD Uniboards on a temporary basis. In addition, all COD 2.0 customers can use "headroom" CPUs as hot spares for non-COD CPUs. Customers purchasing temporary COD RTUs will be able to obtain incremental computing power by activating unlicensed CPUs on COD 2.0 boards on a temporary basis. This will enable customers to reduce cost by meeting temporary demand without purchasing permanent RTUs and to increase server availability by utilizing Hot Sparing capabilities. Temporary COD extends through the life of the server it is licensed for, unlike the procurement solution used with asset-less computing, which typically extends for only 36 months. The maximum time a customer can have a specific T-COD license is six months, which is typically the maximum life of the purchase order used to buy it. If a customer purchases a temporary license for six consecutive months, Sun will issue a permanent license to ...
