SN#10910 Java[TM] Authentication and Authorization Service in Java[TM] 2 Platform, Standard Edition 1.4
SYSTEM NEWS FOR SUN USERS Vol 67 Issue 1 2003-09-02 Article 10910 from section "Java Technology" For Authentication and Authorization A recent article on Sun's Java[TM] technology Web site presents a fast track tutorial on Java[TM] Authentication and Authorization Service (JAAS) in the Java[TM] 2 Platform, Standard Edition (J2SE[TM]) 1.4. Author Qusay H. Mahmoud examines how to use JAAS for authentication and authorization and provides numerous code examples throughout. The JAAS attempts to address some of the security issues in traditional Java technology mechanisms, such as the fact that authentication is based on the idea that code is executing in the JVM and not on a principal making a request for a resource. The JAAS adds to the existing code-based controls with user-based access controls and authentication capabilities. Through this the user can grant permissions based on who is running the code. The Sun article aims to: - Discuss the shortcomings of code-based authentication - Provide an overview of JAAS - Present a code-intensive example of authentication and of authorization - Provide sample code that you can adapt for your own applications - Provide a tutorial to get started with JAAS Details at http://sun.systemnews.com/67/1/ja/index...
