SN#10881 Using Sun[TM] ONE Studio 8, Compiler Collection to Develop for the Solaris[TM] OSSYSTEM NEWS FOR SUN USERS
Vol 67 Issue 1 2003-09-02 Article 10881 from section "Developer's Section"
Provides Easy Porting to Either SPARC[R] or x86 Platform Edition
Neelakanth Nadgir and Amjad Khan recommend the use of Sun[TM] ONE Studio
8, Compiler Collection software for applications developed for either
the Solaris[TM] Operating System (Solaris OS) (SPARC[R] Platform
Edition) or the Solaris OS (x86 Platform Edition).
Nadgir and Khan suggest that, since Sun ONE Studio 8, Compiler
Collection software is supported on both Solaris OS editions, it is
possible to port applications from one to the other using the same
compiler, replacing only a few compiler flags in the build environment.
Their article includes detailed discussion of the developer tools in Sun
ONE Studio 8, Compiler Collection and provides tabular comparisons of
compiler options common to both editions of Solaris OS as well as
options available on one or the other.
In a related article, Khan writes about enhancing support in the Solaris
OS (x86 Platform Edition) for existing applications available on the
Solaris OS (SPARC Platform Edition).
As a technical case study, Khan offers the example of porting Apache Web
Server from Solaris OS, (SPARC Platform Edition) to Solaris OS (x86
Platform Edition) [10901]. Khan compares ...
