"Page size may not be reduced" error. Please help.

I really hope someone can help me. I have a 32 page PDF file that was
created from a combination of PDF files produced from illustrator and
Indesign and combined together in Acrobat.

The pages have crop marks and bleed, so they are larger than A4. I need
to crop them down to A4 in acrobat. However it just won't let me do it.
I keep getting a message saying "Page size may not be reduced". It is
as though it is locked and does allow any cropping at all. I tried
this with other PDF's and they are all the same. So technically the
crop function doesn't actually work for me at all??

I have tried everything I can think of. I am not able to reproduce the
original PDF's, I can only work with the single merged file. I also
have a deadline, and my head is on the chopping block if I can't get
this solved in time.

If anyone can provide a solution I would be most appreciative.

Sounds as if you are using the crop tool, but not actually trying to
crop; instead using "change page size". The design might lead you to
think it's the same thing, but it's not. The page size here is an
underlying size, not what you want to change; the only change allowed
is to increase it, since the other boxes (crop etc.) are otherwise
forced inside the original size.

Perhaps not leaving page size at "None"?
