Cannot get black text to overprint with Distiller 7

I used to create pdf from MS Word with Distiller 5. The black text
overprinted.
I can't manage to do the same with Distiller 7 : the text always
appears to knockout.
My printer tried to use Pitstop to correct the pdf file, but the
changes were not taken into account.
So I had to get back to Distiller 5.
Any help will be welcome to understand what is wrong or what parameter
to change in Distiller 7.
