According to the documentation of the listings-package 1.4, you
can escape to LaTeX within comments via the texcl-key.
The example below, where the escapebegin-key is used for changing
the font-shape, shows that this seems to be possible only
for comments which do _not_ span several lines.
Is this a bug or is this a feature?
Actually I wanted to get the comment-delimiters written in a

Hi, I'm totally new to formatting in Mathematica.
Please could someone help me make it so my default.nb does fractions that don't shrink in font size?
Also, my table font is set to courier and the equations don't do italics as usual. How do I solve this?
well look hard for options - there are many that may help. here's a
clue if you can't find any...
on my box Mathematica doubles the Box height when I enter a faction
and the fraction is the same size. try changing style sheets?
Mine does that for Style Input but not Style Text. For style text the
thing does get a double box size but still appears smaller
StyleBox[FractionBox[x, y], FontSize -> 18] // DisplayForm
shows it larger. there are a few ways you can wrap stylebox around
every FractionBox whenever FractionBox is input or whenever it's
output. see InputAutoReplacements for one way. Another way is to
make FractionBox function yourself (call the orig. one but wrap it).
Again there may be a Global Option for BoxData or RowBox I can't find
that, using Style Text, chooses a bigger font.
HOWEVER. If I change from Text style to Input it is changed: my 1/2
is fully double sized again automatically. ** I'd say pop open the
Style Sheet and see where the difference is there **
sorry if that didn't help

Possibly a font substitution problem. I font is being requested which is not
installed so another font is being used for the display. Alas, the
substituted font does not have the glyphs being requested so you are getting
the "sorry-no can do" box.
Other problems can produce the result. A fairly frequent one is a corrupt or
non-matching printer driver. RDS99 mentions that one.
Give us a few more details and someone might be able to give better
In the meantime, check to be sure a good copy the font(s) being used is/are

What do others do to limit the number of characters a user can enter in
a text box? Do you specify the number of characters exactly so that
only that number will fit in the text box, thereby preventing the user
from overfilling the text entry?
Of course, if they do overfill, they can see/view the extra data by
using the arrow key to scroll through the text in the field.
This has been raised on a project I am doing where these text boxes are
ultimately printed on top of preprinted forms. Only so much space for

I maintain an application that creates text based PDFs. The source data is
in UTF-8 format. I have no problem with
Western European languages, I just convert the UTF-8 to codepage 1252 and
specify "Encoding WinAnsiEncoding" in
the font object. I was wondering if there was an easy way to deal with
UTF-8 encoding of other languages, particularly
Asian languages such as Japanese and Chinese. I don't want to include my
own font tables, just use whatever is installed
on the local system.

I know this has been asked before, but I haven't seen any response. Has
anyone found an easy way to get the bounding box size (height, width) of
a Text expression for a given DisplayFunction? Or for that matter, the
size of any Graphics object being displayed?
I've tried a few things, but this is way too difficult, and there aren't
even any kludgy workarounds.
For instance, to get text height, I tried to pull the FontSize->x out of
any Text expression. This is ok, but of course, doesn't work if no

No. It's not a property of the PDF file, see PDF specification.
Only the color and the flag for italic and bold can be set
