Keep getting Image Mask errors whie using PDF Optimizer

  • Follow

Hi all,
When I try to use the PDF Optimizer, I keep getting this message
saying:
"The following objects were not downsampled:
- Images which are image masks"

The problem is that it doesn't compress the file.
A new file is created, but when I tried to break it into smaller files
and compress them - they were compressed much better.

It acts as if it stops compressing as soon as it comes across a mask
image.

Where do these masks come from? All the links in the original
framemaker file are wmf, jpeg and tif.

Thanks for your help.

Masks are typically used to make images with non-rectangular shape, such as
circles. They produce images "without background".

AFAIK, out of the three formats you mention, only TIFF supports image masks
directly in the file. Or maybe you or FM added the masks to achieve some effects
such as text flowing around images or non-rectangular images on some background
(such as companies' logos).

If it will help narrow them down, imagemasks are strictly monochrome
(white and one other colour).
