looking for a pdf creating print-spooler
I have looked around on the internet, but couldn't find anything that
matches my requirements.
I am looking for a tool that runs on a server and creates PDF documents
automatically out of the Windows printer-spool folder.
I want to archive any document that is printed on any of the network
printers set up on the server.
The documents should be saved somehow on a folder as PDF-documents.
No indexing of the content or special naming of the outputfile
required.
The server runs windows 2000 / 3-5 clients.
Does anyone know something that could help me with this.
Any tools or also any idea how i can do something like this is welcome.
regards
Marcelo

Isn't ghostscript a good idea ?
I dunno if it can work with hotfolders, but for sure u can run it
periodically from a script.

Maybe. If it can read the spool folder documents and i disable the
deletion of the printed documents (from the spool) on the Clients, than
it could be a solution.
I still used ghostscript for some other stuff, but haven't thought of
it for this purpose.
Thanks, i will check for the possibilities i have with ghostscript.

I know this is not exatly what you asked for, but I think it should be
fairly easy to get a LINUX/UNIX box running CUPS to do that. You could
have everybody use this print server which then could archive the jobs
and also forward them to the desired printer. The archive directory
could then be shared using samba.
That made me wonder if there is a CUPS port to Windows. I didn't find
one, but I did find this:
http://lpr.brooksnet.com/index.html
Which looks a bit like CUPS for Windows to me.

Well, i asked for any ideas, so why not a linux box. i still have an
old server running linux on it and currently used as DNS/DHCP-Server.
So this could be an option to me. (i think i forgott how i setup this
linux box - its always the same with linux : configure it once, put it
in a corner and forget about it (and the passwords and other
unimportant things)).
I remeber i tried out to run it as a print-server, but had some trouble
with the printer-drivers (at least it was a problem for a linux newbie
like me).
thanks

Print filters are just scripts that get run by the queue. Look into the
documentation of the queue daemeon that you are using.
If your server is running an older distro then you will get LPRNG, which
for small systems is dead easy to setup. Just edit the config file and go.
Ditto for Samba.
