Merge scanned documents

Please slap me and direct me to a FAQ if this has been asked before...

I need to scan a bunch of two sided documents. I would like to scan one of
a stack of say, a 10 page document, using my scanner with a document feeder,
flip the whole stack over and scan it, then merge the two files into one.

My HP scanner software already scans to PDF. The reult is one file with
page numbers 1,3,5,7,9 and the other with 10,8,6,4,2- the back side is in
reverse order obviously.

Is there a package that will merge these correctly? (i.e. will produce a
single document with the pages in the correct order) I looked at the
'pdftk' package referenced in another thread, but it seems like it will
merge it "linearly", an I will end up with 1,3,5,7,9,10,8,6,4,2.

Is there a package that will do the whole process from scanning to merging?

Free is great, but I'm not afraid to spend some money to accomplish this.

Thanks.

We have a plugin for Acrobat Full version 5.05 or higher that can take
care of this. It is called Acroscan $395.00. Contact sales@prinux.us if
you are interested.
