PCL XL Error: InsufficientMemory
Alloo,
I'm having a problem. I have an okipage okidata 14ex USB laserprinter
and it works just fine. I am running gentoo linux with cups 1.1.20.
Now, I want to print this .pdf file of 7.2MB. It only counts 14 pages,
but with a lot of graphics, colors, layers, etc... My printer only
delivers the following on a paper:
PCL XL error
Subsystem: GRAPHIC
Error: InsufficientMemory
Operator: Rectangle
Position: 49068
Nothing more. Seemingly, the printer has insufficient memory (it has
4MB) and I am looking for ways to get this solved.
When I choose to only print pages 1 to 1 in xpdf or acroread, the same
error occurs. It seems that still the whole document gets spooled.
Is there a way to reduce the resolution of the .pdf-files? Is there a
way to split it up? Maybe I can configure cups to do this for me?
greetings and thanks,
BBBart

No, I don't think it shows that. CUPS (probably) is converting the
file to PCL a page at a time. The printer doesn't have to hold any
pages other than the current one it is printing. So there is not
enough memory to print a single page.
This has no connection to the original PDF size - it could be 10K. It
has to do with the amount of information on a page.
4 MB is borderline for 600 dpi printing. See if you can lower the
resolution to 300 dpi. Perhaps in CUPS, perhaps in the printer itself.
